About Apple iMac 21.5"

Sit down in front of the new iMac and something incredible happens: The world around you seems to disappear, and you lose yourself in the big, beautiful display. To create an experience this immersive, Apple pushed every limit, rethought every detail, and advanced iMac in the most astonishing ways. The new iMac includes the most advanced, most brilliant desktop display they've ever built, and it's filled with the latest high-performance technologies. Yet it's just 5mm thin at its edge with up to 40 percent less volume than the previous generation.

Powered by third-generation Intel Core processors, the new iMac is the fastest yet. Across the line, the new iMac features advanced NVIDIA GeForce graphics processors built on the Kepler architecture, delivering up to 60 percent greater performance for graphics-intensive tasks. You'll see more frames per second in 3D games, and you can edit HD home videos with more speed and responsiveness than ever before.

The new iMac introduces a breakthrough storage option called Fusion Drive, which combines a high-capacity hard drive with high-performance flash storage. Fusion Drive automatically and intelligently manages your data so that frequently used apps, documents, photos, and other files stay on the faster flash storage, while infrequently used items move to the hard drive. You'll enjoy shorter boot times, and as the system learns how you work, you'll experience faster application launches and quicker file access.

Apple iMac 21.5" Features

  • High capacity storage: Go ahead and take all the photos, buy all the music, and shoot all the video you want. A 1TB hard drive comes standard on the new iMac, with the option to upgrade to a massive 3TB drive which is 50 percent more storage than ever before offered on iMac.
  • Thunderbolt: Ultrafast and ultraflexible, the tiny Thunderbolt port offers unprecedented transfer speeds and incredibly versatile expansion capabilities. Connect high-performance peripherals such as external drives, cameras, audio and video capture devices - even Mini DisplayPort displays for more screen real estate.
  • USB 3: Bring on your printer, digital camera, mobile phone, and external hard drive. Every iMac comes with four USB 3 ports - with speeds up to 10 times faster than USB 2 - so you'll have plenty of peripheral possibilities, including your iPhone or iPod, printer, or Apple USB SuperDrive.
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: The latest 802.11n wireless technology in iMac makes it effortless to connect to a Wi-Fi network. Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology is also built in, so you can use your favorite wireless accessories - such as the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Magic Mouse - right out of the box.
  • Higher-fidelity sound: Even though the iMac enclosure is thinner than ever, the new built-in speakers deliver higher-fidelity sound than before. So when you're listening to that new album, watching the latest flick, or playing your favorite action game, you'll get immersive sound and a surprisingly wide soundstage.
  • Dual mics. Be heard loud and clear: iMac has two built-in microphones that work together to home in on your voice and filter out the sounds around you. That means more accuracy when you're using Dictation and better clarity during FaceTime video calls.
  • FaceTime HD camera: Get everyone in the picture with crisp, widescreen HD video. The built-in 720p FaceTime HD camera lets you make video calls that are so clear, it seems like everyone's in the same room. Make FaceTime calls from your iMac to any FaceTime-enabled Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
  • Magic Mouse: comes standard with iMac and lets you perform simple gestures across its smooth, seamless top shell. Scroll in any direction with one finger, swipe through web pages and photos with two, and click and double-click anywhere.
  • Optionally available Magic Trackpad: To take advantage of all the Multi-Touch gestures that make OS X Mountain Lion so easy and intuitive to use, choose the Magic Trackpad option. Designed with a touch-friendly all-glass surface, it's the largest Multi-Touch trackpad made by Apple. So there's plenty of room for scrolling, swiping, & more.
  • OS X Mountain Lion: OS X Mountain Lion takes full advantage of the incredible technologies in every Mac. It makes a powerful computer intuitive and easy to use. It makes Multi-Touch gestures on the trackpad feel fluid and natural. It makes it easy to find, organize, share, and do just about everything.
  • Great built-in apps: iMac comes loaded with the iLife suite of apps: iPhoto for organizing, editing, and sharing your photos; iMovie for creating Hollywood-style movies at home; and GarageBand for making great music. You also get apps for sending email, managing your schedule, and automatically backing up your Mac.
  • iCloud: iCloud stores your content and lets you access your music, photos, calendars, contacts, documents, and more from whatever device you're on. So if you take a picture with your iPhone or make changes to your meeting schedule on your iPad, iCloud makes sure everything appears on your Mac, too.
  • Support from AppleCare: A Mac includes 90 days of free telephone technical support and a one-year limited warranty. If you purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan, you can extend that coverage to three years from the original purchase date of your Mac.

Nice new computer for photo processing!

New quad core processor fast for photo image processing, plus the new(er) display is still a quality ips unit but with less reflectance and you can set luminance at 80 for ideal image viewing. Easily calibrated with my X-Rite device (great software support for newer OSX by the way).

Not recommended

By

from Enfield, CT  -  Tech Savvy

I would not recommend this for more than browsing the internet. Runs slower than the mid-2008 macbook pro it replaced. Multiple user profiles take minutes... MINUTES... to change from user to user. Has difficulty even running Safari and iTunes at the same time.

New iMac with better processor and wi-fi

By

from Raleigh  -  Tech Savvy

The newest iMac from Adorama was an excellent purchase. The item shipped fast and was in the original packaging (the white box inside a surdy brown carton). The machine, apart from other conf, also boasts of newest standard in wi-fi (ac) which makes it run super smooth.

Adorama Helps Me Buy

By

from northern Arizona  -  Having Fun With Imac

I phoned Adorama and was promptly helped by sales people who were cheerful, knowledgeable, helpful. The iMac is great. The upgrade to Mavericks was free, and easy to do. Your write up of this computer is descriptive and helpful. My husband and I have had a Mac computer since 1984, and it's been fun seeing each new feature.

Very difficult to enlarge fonts!

By

from Phoenix  -  Tech Savvy

Disapponted after great experiences with iPhone & iPad. Switched from PC to get Lightroom for photo processing. If you are young & don't need glasses, this machine will suit your needs. If you need to increase font size, forget it. OS X was not designed for this, unlike iOS & Windows. To make things worse, Adorama will not take back computers! There is a third-party app called Tinker Tool(not approved by Apple), which helps increase font size, but it is not ideal.

Excellent desktop computer!

By

from Minneapolis, MN

We purchased this since our 7 yr old imac was getting a bit slow and we needed two computers in the house with kids starting to use the computer more from homework, etc. This new imac is blazing fast. Migration from old imac to new imac was easy. (Use a wired ethernet for migration; migration over wifi was slow and kept failing.) I use chronosync to keep the two macs synchronized. Works great!

Garrick F  I have lots of jpeg files stored on WD My Book external hard drives for Windows Can I still access these files if switching to iMac?
BARRY E  Garrick, This is the first Mac I have ever owned, so I am not an expert is what kind of files one can transfer and view between systems-- but I can say that all my pictures (including jpeg files) were transferred over from my PC and I have not had any problems viewing anything. The iMac is a great computer and I wish I would of purchased it years ago... I would recommend to anyone.
