About Apple iMac 21.5"

The Apple iMac 21.5" 1080p LED All-in-One Desktop Computer is an All-in-One desktop computer with an ultra-slim unibody design. Measuring at just 5mm at its edges, the iMac has 40% less volume than the 2011 iMac. The body of the iMac isn't the only thing that got thinner. The LCD display is now 5mm thinner and Apple also removed a 2mm gap between the LCD panel and the glass to save even more space.

The 21.5" widescreen display features LED backlighting for vibrant, accurate color. With in-plane switching (IPS) technology, the iMac has a wide 178deg. viewing angle. The screen has a 16:9 aspect ratio and Full HD 1920 x 1080 native resolution, supported by a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M graphics card with 1GB of GDDR5 memory.

Powered by a quad-core 4th-generation Haswell 2.9GHz Intel Core i5 processor, the iMac takes advantage of each core to optimize performance. The 4th-gen Haswell Intel processor also allows for low voltage usage for better energy efficiency. The system also has 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM, a 1TB 5400rpm hard drive, 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11ac/a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, a FaceTime HD camera, dual microphones and built-in stereo speakers.

For ports, the iMac has dual Thunderbolt ports (which also double as Mini Display Ports) and four USB 3.0 ports. You'll be able to connect with various compatible components. If you would rather go wireless with your peripherals, you can use Bluetooth 4.0 technology where compatible.

Mac OS X Mavericks comes preinstalled on the iMac. Mountain Lion introduces a host of new features, such as Contacts, Calendar, Reminders, Notification Center and more. Mountain Lion seamlessly integrates with your other Apple devices, such as the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch using iCloud. Just sign into iCloud with your Apple ID and you'll instantly have access to all your settings, files, photos, music and more.

Also included with Mountain Lion is iLife. iLife has a complete suite of digital creativity applications. Easy enough for anyone to use, iLife will help you edit your home movies, organize digital photos and compose original music. The system is also powerful enough to run Apple's professional-level applications, perfect for those who are ready to move up to the next level of creative software.

Apple iMac 21.5" Features

  • Innovations you can see - You won't want anything to distract you from what you're viewing on these big, beautiful 21.5" displays. And nothing will, thanks to an amazing display design that reduces reflection by 75 percent
  • IPS technology and LED backlighting: The gorgeous iMac display looks great from any seat in the house. A technology called in-plane switching (IPS) gives you a bright picture with excellent color from nearly any angle. And LED backlighting offers instant-on, uniform brightness with no waiting
  • Vivid, true-to-life color. Every time: Everything you see on the big, glossy display from skin tones and dark shadows to bright blue skies and green fields is rich and vibrant. And the colors are more true to life, too
  • Powered by fourth-generation Intel Core processors, this iMac is the fastest yet
  • Faster Fusion Drive: Fusion Drive is breakthrough storage option that combines a high-capacity hard drive with high-performance flash storage. And now it's up to 50 percent faster than before
  • Up to 1TB of flash storage - For maximum performance, you can configure iMac with up to 1TB of flash storage (up to 512GB on the 21.5-inch iMac) instead of a traditional hard drive
  • Up to a 3TB hard drive: Go ahead and take all the photos, buy all the music and shoot all the video you want. A 1TB hard drive comes standard, with the option to upgrade to a massive 3TB hard drive
  • Faster 802.11ac Wi-Fi - iMac now supports ultrafast 802.11ac Wi-Fi. When it's connected to an 802.11ac base station - including the new AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule - wireless performance is up to 3x faster than with the previous generation of iMac. And your Wi-Fi range improves as well
  • Thunderbolt - Ultra-fast and ultra-flexible, the tiny Thunderbolt port offers unprecedented transfer speeds and incredibly versatile expansion capabilities. Connect high-performance peripherals such as external drives, cameras, audio and video capture devices
  • USB 3: Bring on your printer, digital camera, mobile phone and external hard drive. Every iMac comes with four USB 3 ports with speeds up to 10 times faster than USB 2, so you'll have plenty of peripheral possibilities, including your iPhone or iPod, printer, or Apple USB SuperDrive
  • Bluetooth: Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology is also built in, so you can use your favorite wireless accessories - such as the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Magic Mouse - right out of the box
  • Higher-fidelity sound and a larger soundstage - Even though the iMac enclosure is thinner than ever, the built-in speakers deliver higher-fidelity sound than before. So when you're listening to that new album, watching the latest flick, or playing your favorite action game
  • Dual mics. Be heard loud and clear - iMac has two built-in microphones that work together to home in on your voice and filter out the sounds around you. That means more accuracy when you're using Dictation and better clarity during FaceTime video calls
  • FaceTime HD camera for high-resolution video calls - Get everyone in the picture with crisp, widescreen HD video. The built-in 720p FaceTime HD camera lets you make video calls that are so clear, it seems like everyone's in the same room
  • OS X Mountain Lion takes full advantage of the incredible technologies in every Mac. It makes a powerful computer intuitive and easy to use. It makes Multi-Touch gestures on the trackpad feel fluid and natural. It makes it easy to find, organize, share and do just about everything

Not recommended

I would not recommend this for more than browsing the internet. Runs slower than the mid-2008 macbook pro it replaced. Multiple user profiles take minutes... MINUTES... to change from user to user. Has difficulty even running Safari and iTunes at the same time.

New iMac with better processor and wi-fi

By

from Raleigh  -  Tech Savvy

The newest iMac from Adorama was an excellent purchase. The item shipped fast and was in the original packaging (the white box inside a surdy brown carton). The machine, apart from other conf, also boasts of newest standard in wi-fi (ac) which makes it run super smooth.

Adorama Helps Me Buy

By

from northern Arizona  -  Having Fun With Imac

I phoned Adorama and was promptly helped by sales people who were cheerful, knowledgeable, helpful. The iMac is great. The upgrade to Mavericks was free, and easy to do. Your write up of this computer is descriptive and helpful. My husband and I have had a Mac computer since 1984, and it's been fun seeing each new feature.

Very difficult to enlarge fonts!

By

from Phoenix  -  Tech Savvy

Disapponted after great experiences with iPhone & iPad. Switched from PC to get Lightroom for photo processing. If you are young & don't need glasses, this machine will suit your needs. If you need to increase font size, forget it. OS X was not designed for this, unlike iOS & Windows. To make things worse, Adorama will not take back computers! There is a third-party app called Tinker Tool(not approved by Apple), which helps increase font size, but it is not ideal.

Excellent desktop computer!

By

from Minneapolis, MN

We purchased this since our 7 yr old imac was getting a bit slow and we needed two computers in the house with kids starting to use the computer more from homework, etc. This new imac is blazing fast. Migration from old imac to new imac was easy. (Use a wired ethernet for migration; migration over wifi was slow and kept failing.) I use chronosync to keep the two macs synchronized. Works great!

Nice new computer for photo processing!

By

from South of Denver, CO  -  Tech Savvy

New quad core processor fast for photo image processing, plus the new(er) display is still a quality ips unit but with less reflectance and you can set luminance at 80 for ideal image viewing. Easily calibrated with my X-Rite device (great software support for newer OSX by the way).
