An expensive but necessary item

By

from Michigan  -  Photo Enthusiast

I already had one of these on my nikon 70-200, but found the need for one on my 300 f4. It is light and does what it is supposed to do. The lip in the back is nice since it prevents the plate from rotating once secured. Not the most exciting thing to spend money on at close to $40, but it serves its purpose.

Excellent quality

By

from Atlanta, GA  -  Semi-pro Photographer

This is an excellent plate. It attaches very solidly. It will not rotate or shift at all once attached. It's very sturdy and I have total confidence it will hold my expensive gear securly. My only criticism is that the price seems a little high for a seemingly very simple piece of machined aluminum.

Solid, trustworthy construction

By

from Stow, Ohio  -  Semi-pro Photographer

This is one finely crafted piece of metal. And it should be for this price! Seriously, though, if I am going to trust my heavy gear on a tripod, I want it attached to something I can trust. This plate passes the test. My only concern is that the screw is not trapped; it separates from the plate when not installed. The plate ought to come with two screws for that inevitable time when I lose one.

Excellent QR Plate

By

from Irving, Tx  -  Photo Enthusiast

I attached this to my Nikon 80-200 f2.8 to use as a QR for my monopod. Works better than I had hoped -- no slipping, stays firmly attached and adds essentially no weight to the setup. Does not get in the way when using the lens handheld.

Nice solid plate

By

from San Jose, CA  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

Very solid plate for larger lenses, at a reasonable price. I bought this for a 400mm f/3.5 Nikon lens, and it works perfectly. It holds the lens very firmly, and is long enough to allow me to position the ballhead clamp so that it balances the camera and lens on my tripod.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Attaching screw is 1/4 20 threads correct?
TOM W  The screw is a standard size - worked perfectly with a Canon 70-200 lens tripod mount ring.
darius L  does this shoe work on a bogan 3066?
PETER H  Darius This a very good plate anything up to 400mm depending on the the length of the lens mount foot. They come in several sizes. Match the plate to the length of the foot , for larger lenes the longer the the plate.
Shopper  Will this work on a Giotto MH5400?
JAMES L  I am using this with a Pentax Telephoto lens that has a tripod mount. I am mounting the Pentax K5 with the long lens to a manfrotto tripod with the Acratech head on it. The long quick release plate alows me to have a better and stronger connection to the lens mount, it also alows me to shift the tripod forward and backward to balance the weight of the long lens. I am not familiiar with the Giotto product that is mentioned. Sorry
