These stop controlling the slave outlets after 4 years of continuous use. My third just failed, 4 years after the 2nd, which failed 4 years after the 1st. Guessing you figured this out and that is why they are discontinued with no replacement options.

This APC model has been was recently purchased for a unique application ... a large digital church organ. The instrument has three peripherals (music light, MIDI sound module and MIDI sequencer which need to be all turned on after the organ is powered up. With this new APC unit (which replaced a non power-saving surge protector), all that is needed is to turn the organ and all its peripherals turn on. The organ has an auto shut off feature which means if it is not used in more than two hours, it turns itself off. A test was made and when the instrument turned itself off, all the peripherals turned off. Fabulous. With the high joule rating and fast response time, the organ is well protected with peace of mind.

This 11 outlet SurgeArrest unit does everything! It even protects coax and phone and the best part is the 6 outlets that are spaced further apart so you can fit larger plugs! ALL units should have this feature! Highly recommended!

Unit replaced due to failure wrt controlled outlets - "auto" shut off time had changed from 7 -10 seconds to over 5 hours. unit replaced / shipped free of any charges.

Needed another Surge Arrest to replace an older APC of similar design that I moved to use for another purpose. This one works well, but I wish that it had a couple of "always on" outlets, but don't really need them for what I am using it for. One other slight complaint is that the indicator that shows the unit is "on" does not light up like the old one does. Hard to tell if it is on or off.

Works well. Really cool that it shuts off my Surround Sound and Sub Woofer after Flat Screen TV turns off. This does save on Electricity.

I shopped at Best Buy none of the surge protectors had the controlled outputs that this model has. In addition, the APC surge protector has a lifetime warranty on both the product and connected equipment that many competitors don't offer. The reason for selecting this partcular model was based partly on better surge protection specs.
