We purchased the Asus netbook to accompany us when we travel. What sets a netbook apart from a tablet-style computer is how well it supports our two most important activities. First, we keep a journal using the Apache Open Office word processor. The keyboard, while small, is adequate to be able to compose without getting in the way. Second, we copy images from our cameras to the netbook's hard drive, organize them into directory structures, naming the pictures while we still remember what they are and deleting the failures. We perform hard drive backups regularly for our own peace of mind. We wouldn't want to lose anything, either to mishaps or theft. Thus, when we get home, we have what we need to make a lovely keepsake photo book: memories are documented with descriptions, images and timestamps. It's helpful that the netbook uses the same operating system and software that we're accustomed to on our desktop computers at home: no learning curve and the contents of journal and images transfer without the least fuss to our networked external hard drives at home. The backup software is the same as we are used to at home, again facilitating us keeping things up-to-date.

If you want to read library books on a nook that does not itself have Wi-Fi this is your best choice while traveling.
