I've had this in my hands for bout a month now and love it, ASUS is a great product and the extended warrantee even makes it all the better. This is my 4th lappy since 08 although I use this for personal use I'm on it 8 to 12 hours a day most days. I'm glad I stayed with Windows 7 rather than upgrading. This pc starts up very fast and will handle everything I will ever do. The purchase was handled very well with all the support anyone could ask for, to my amazment I recieved it two days earlyer than the tracking time had posted. Thanks Again Adorama ...

I bought this compter to do photoshop work with. So far I am very pleased, have not had it lock up on me or had to sit and wait for it to do its thing.

Pros: This thing is a beast, better than average 3dmark scores. Backlit keyboard is so awesome. Came with a nice gaming mouse and even a backpack. everything about it is so well done. Cooling system is of the best I have seen for a laptop. I can use it in lap without getting hot. For a laptop it is everything I needed. I needed a mobile version of my home build and got it pretty close, plays games, edits hd video, edits photos, does it all! Cons: Very large(but it is a 17.3in gaming laptop), a little loud when fans kick up, battery isn't super long(again expected)3-4 hours of constant use, power supply is massive(seriously massive!)

After the screen on my 6 year-old Dell E1705 cracked, I was on the lookout for a new DTR laptop that had a comparable 17 inch screen with at least 1080p. Most computers of this variety were gaming oriented, and even though I'm not a hardcore gamer, I do occasionally play games such as WoW and Call of Duty (and Civ and Sims), so something with power, but not ULTIMATE gaming power was my focus. The final competitors were whittled down to the Macbook Pro, Asus, MSI, Samsung, and Clevo in various configs. The Apple was nixed because of lack of upgradeability, only 15 inch screen, and an uncomfortably hot running temp. The Windows PCs all fell into the same general lump, but the keyboard layout, cool and quiet running, and pricing here at Adorama ultimately swayed me to the Asus G75VW DS71. I've had it for about 4 weeks and have enjoyed the experience so far. The trackpad is large and has a very nice, smooth touch. This is my first laptop with a backlit keyboard and that is a nice perk, especially when the rest of the family has gone to bed for the night. Having two 750 GB HDDs is a bonus- I'm planning to replace one with an SDD to run the OS and programs, which will leave me with a 750 GB drive to use as an external backup. The performance of the machine is snappy. It barely breaks a sweat running games that had my Dell's fans whirring at break-neck speeds. A few cons: I had read several professional and user reviews citing the poor sound configuration, but I didn't realize how bad it was until I actually tested it out for myself. The two main L/R speakers on top have pretty atrocious sound reproduction capabilities. Very tinny and no low end or mid-range frequencies to speak of. The sub-woofer on the bottom is not a sub or even a low-frequency booster. It's a mono, full-frequency speaker that overpowers the top speakers. If the user sets the levels of the stereo speakers and the "sub" so that there is workable balance (for example, +45 for the stereo pair and +15 for the "sub"), then tries to use the master volume control to raise or lower the overall volume, the levels for all 3 speakers jump to the same level (ie. they all adjust to being +30), thus screwing up the balance. Unacceptable for a high-end laptop, IMO. The screen also suffers from being a poor TN panel with very shallow viewing angles. Going off center to the left or right or up or down by a few inches starts washing out the screen. When paired with the bad speakers, it makes watching movies with my wife on this puppy a bit difficult. A few nits that were probably specific to my computer- when I pulled it out of the box, one of the bottom rubber pads was missing, and the hatch that covers the HDDs and RAM was ajar. It was still screwed in place, but it wasn't flush with the casing at one edge. I had to forcibly pop it back in place. And finally, 3 days in, my infant batted at the keybaord and managed to make the ESC key pop off. It was easy enough to pop it back in.

This really is worth the investment. I use this primarily for programming and multimedia editing and gaming as well and it handles everything like its not even straining at all. Although this isn't as light as your sister's netbook, 4.5kg is negligible what with all the features packed inside this beast. Plus, delivery was super fast!
