A more professional portable recorder

I am glad that opted to spend a little more for a much better unit. Performance specs (e.g. THD, etc.) are in the professional category. See Ken Rockwell's excellent and thorough evaluation: http://kenrockwell.com/audio/tascam/dr-100mkii.htm I use this to record my jazz trio at live performances for youtube and other publication and rehearsals for solo practice later. The device is very easy to use. Volume knob instead of buttons is a must. 'Divide' editing function is super handy and well-conceived. Many useful functions and features: XLR inputs, etc. Unit design is well-layed-out. Sound is excellent. Display and selection wheel has just the right amount of info and control. Only beef might be that internal mics are a little hot in the high-frequency range - picks up cymbals over other istruments. Still working on mic placement to overcome this. I am sure I will. I am very satisfied with this device, and expect to get many good years use out of it.

The Tascam DR-100MKII is portable stereo digital audio recorder designed with high-end recording features aimed at musicians and engineers. The four built-in microphones, two cardioid and two omnidirectional, deliver great sound via the high-gain and low noise microphone preamps. A pair of XLR inputs can accommodate external microphones and provide switchable phantom power for use with condenser microphones.
