Great Monopod

By

from New York, NY  -  Semi-pro Photographer

When my equipment gets too heavy, this works really great!! I use this for the still not for the movie, so I purchased ball head and it's just perfect. The great thing about this is, you can take photos with this and when you wanna take it off, just take if off with the quick release plate and the monopod just keep standing there.

Best monopod for video

By

from Pacific NW  -  Pro Photographer

Don't bother with any other monopod for video use. This is the best out there, having used others. Three stable feet for rock solid shots, but of course, a tripod is always best. Only downside is that Manfrotto used a *different* mounting plate and the other plates from my 502 don't fit! Whatever were they thinking? Now I have to change baseplates for changing tripods! That is why I only gave it 4 stars. Manfrotto, fix that issue! But other than that, I always travel with it. Essential item in my kit. I use it with both a Canon XF305 and Canon 7D. Works great with both.

Questions about this item:

Federico P  Can I unscrew the Camera Plate Adapter and put a Manfrotto ball head?
Andrew R  In theory it may be possible to remove the plate adapter and replace it with another head, however the mount does not include set screws to lock the head in place when attached.
Anastasia D  In it replaceable head?
al b  No. From what I can tell, owning one, there is no way to replace the head. The plate, is not standard Manfrotto, meaning you need to have a spare if you have multiple cameras and want to switch easily in an fast shoot. Also, it doesn't do a smooth pan 180 degrees as the legs have a slight hitch to them when panning, which is standard. But I use this monopod a lot. Great for stills, (just used it this AM on a shoot), and it serves very well for run and gun with a 7D etc. Can be a bit shakey after a while, it is not a replacement to a tripod, but an adjunct.
Shopper  How much weight can it hold?
JIM C  I can't say a specific number of pounds, but can say that the monopole is very substantial ... and the weight is vertical so it would not be putting much stress on the monopole ... I'd say if you can lift it with one hand this monopole would not object...
