About Manfrotto

The new Expan system (replaces the 2990 Motorized Expan) now provides a convenient and simple way to operate and adjust your studio backgrounds, using remote controlled motors that suspend, raise and lower up to 10 canvas or paper backgrounds at a time.

Backgrounds are quickly interchanged in their holders and you can automatically set each background's high and low positions, then smoothly and easily roll from one to the other with a press of a button.

Alternatively, use the manual roll up/down features for different positioning and fine adjustment. And when you've finished shooting, tidying the backgrounds out of harm's way is a touch of a button.

Manfrotto Features

  • Supplied in sets (one set = 1 passive roller and 1 active motor drive).
  • Heavy duty motor to allow operation of heavy backgrounds (up to 26 lbs)
  • Smooth operation thanks to cardan - type clutch
  • Equipped with hall-effect electronic position sensors, enable positioning precision down to 1/3 of a turn
  • Very easy to install just plug in jacks
  • Cable to Main Control Unit 1.5 meter length

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Can I attach this unit to any of the background poles that you offer?
EDGAR S  I have a 4-roll non-motorized setup on two Adorama Flashpoint 10' background stands ( FPBS10 kit). The paper rolls are Bogen BG2922 ALU Core 107" tubes. The three paper rolls are on a Bogen 3-roll background hook set which I attached to the FlashPoint stands by way of the Adorama LTPC Pro Clamps. I used two clamps per stand as my way of over-engineering. The 4th roll is a fabric roll on the same type core, but attached by way of a pair of stand-top upright roll holders (I can't find the paperwork for the exact part number) via a bushing over the bolt at the top of the FPBS10 stand. This top roll replaces the standard 10' background pole which comes with the stand kit since the ALU Cores are 107". This would probably not have been necessary if I just used the 3 roll hooks and left the top bar off. All backgrounds use the manual chain-drive Expan Roll drives. They seems to be working well this far. My guess would be that any of the background stands would work.
