About Manfrotto MH054M0-Q6

A professional ball head built for compatibility with 190 carbon fiber tripods, the Manfrotto 054 is extremely precise, providing extra-smooth movements. Compact, ergonomic, powerful, durable and made of lightweight magnesium, the 054 also has uniquely innovative features like the exclusive 90°-105° portrait angle selector, designed to give better, easier camera control and framing accuracy.

The 054 is complemented by the new Q6 Top Lock quick release system, developed to offer photographers a fast, easy to use and very secure camera quick release mechanism suitable for heavy pro equipment. The camera plate clicks into the clamp from above, and as soon as it engages, it triggers a safety pin that stops the plate and camera from sliding out accidentally. Even before the clamp is locked, the camera is securely supported. The clamp has 3 bubble spirit levels (one for each axis of rotation) to facilitate precise framing and help produce straight images in-camera, ensuring the camera's full frame is usable and reducing post-production time. The Q6 system is also compatible with Arca-style quick release plates and heads from other manufacturers.

Manfrotto MH054M0-Q6 Features

  • Easier to use; failsafe support: Top Lock's clamp element allows the camera to be dropped in from above easier than trying to align and slide it in from the side. It has a safety pin that stops the plate and camera from out of the head, even if the QR lock is inadvertently left open.
  • Helps achieve straighter images and more accurate framing in-camera: Three independent bubbles help level the camera against all axes of rotation, ensuring the full frame is usable and also reducing time spent in post-production.
  • Lightweight and easy to carry: Made from light aluminum and stainless steel offering weight savings without any performance sacrifices.

Seems like a great Ball Head

from Delaware  -  Semi-pro Photographer

This ball head is much smoother than my old Manfrotto head. It is stable and looks great. I love that it has a arca-compatable plate.

Questions about this item:

Kyle W  What is the difference besides total weight capacity between this model and the 055 model? I will be mounting it onto one of the new 190 series legs from Manfrotto.
DEAN M  I don't believe there is any difference other than the load capacity between the 54 and the 55. I've been using mine for about six months now and I love it. I wish I had bought a ball head years ago. It supports my Leica R8 with drive and a 180mm Elmarit with no creeping or slipping facing down and the tension adjuster works great. The plate it quite large though, but with a pro body like my D2x or an attached battery pack, D200, it fits quite well. The rigidity issue will be the legs. I would look at the 55 series. Adorama has them for under $140.00 and they seem to be well made and stiffer than my 15 year old Manfrotto legs.
DEAN M  The Q6 plates are all the same
