Really great product

I use this ball head on my 057 tripod. The two are made for each other, and I use mine to provide support for all of my cameras--digital, 35mm and medium format. when I want to shoot a flower photo down low, a few adjustments, and I'm there. when shooting a bridal portrait outside or inside, or when shooting group photos of the wedding party, I have all the stability and utility I need. The ergonomics of the knobs and levers is very smooth and intuitive.

The Beast

By

I struggled between purchasing this or the RRS 55. I don't generally purchase something new to the market. I like to normally wait and let the bugs get worked out and to also see what the consumer response is but since I really needed a head I was forced to make a decision based on specs. This was an upgrade from the 488. Night and day. Yes it is much bigger but I can't say that it's any heavier, at least as far as toting around. The control is so much nicer and more stable. I never really felt comfortable with the 488. It always made me a little nervous. This head is rock solid. The only complaint I have is now I think I need to upgrade my legs....

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Does this come with the actual sliding plate also or do I need to purchase that separately?
ERIC S  Yes, the plate is included.
Shopper  Will 057 head work with my old velbon vgb-3 tripod?
ANDREW H  I don't see why not if you're tripod has a 1/4"-20 or 3/8-16 stud on it.
