2.75 lb. tripod

By

from Fresno CA  -  Photo Enthusiast

Someone asked how much this tripod weighs. On a medical office digital scale, with plastic still on, I get 2.8 lbs., so figure net 2.75 lbs. I bought the Manfrotto 393 months ago, inspected it, thought I would return it, neglected to do that. I think it is suited for limited use with a point and shoot still camera, not really intended for video. For what I had planned as its use I instead will utilize a Sirui small aluminum tripod and medium-sized ball head, which I would more trust with my Nikon D3100 and 18-140/3.5-5.6 VR.

Not for professional use

By

from Seattle, WA  -  Semi-pro Photographer

When the tripod is in a fully closed configuration, it looks pretty sturdy. But when it is in the fully open / deployed configuration, it is very "wobbly". Every movement of the tripod is directly transferred to a shaky frame, especially important when shooting video. The tripod is pretty small when collapsed, but the material it is made from, makes it heavy to carry. The tripod is not for professional use and will not firmly support a mid-size camera body even with a 50 mm lens (i.e. D810 with 50 mm). It is not recommended for use in any windy conditions, because it is not so sturdy and wobbles around.

Good tripod but not perfect

By

from Chicago

I use the tripod mainly for video. I love the size, the weight, & the versatility. for stills is a very good tripod; however, for video is not that good especially for panning, it is not smooth and tends to jam. for locked video shots it is good.
