About Manfrotto MSQ6

This Manfrotto MSQ6 adapter allows you to fit the Manfrotto Q6 Top Lock quick release system to an existing photo head. The Top Lock system has been developed to offer photographers a fast, easy to use and very secure camera quick release mechanism suitable for heavy pro equipment. The camera plate clicks into the clamp from above, and as soon as it engages, it triggers a safety pin that stops the plate and camera from sliding out accidentally.

Even before the clamp is locked, the camera is securely supported. Made from lightweight aluminum, the clamp has 3 bubble spirit levels (one for each axis of rotation) to facilitate precise framing and help produce straight images in-camera, ensuring the camera's full frame is usable and reducing post-production time. A Q6 Arca-compatible plate is supplied with the adaptor. Spare plates can be purchased separately.

Manfrotto MSQ6 Features

  • Easier to use; failsafe support: Top Lock's clamp element allows the camera to be dropped in from above easier than trying to align and slide it in from the side. It has a safety pin that stops the plate and camera from out of the head, even if the QR lock is inadvertently left open.
  • Helps achieve straighter images and more accurate framing in-camera: Three independent bubbles help level the camera against all axes of rotation, ensuring the full frame is usable and also reducing time spent in post-production.
  • Lightweight and easy to carry: Made from light aluminum and stainless steel offering weight savings without any performance sacrifices.

Questions about this item:

Gil R  Is this compatable with the Arca Swiss camera plates ?
GARY M  NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beware!!!!! I bought this item hoping it would really be an "Arca-Swiss compatible" head but it is only "compatible" if you use the plate that came with it!!! The plate will work on other Arca-Swiss heads, but other Arca-Swiss plates won't work on this MSQ6! To be honest, I quit with Manfrotto. Too funky. Too many times I've heard from photo shop clerks and reps that Manfrotto is often incompatible with other brands a/o has different specs from industry standards. This MSQ6 is a good example. The issue with the MQ6 is that there is a little retractable "catch clip" (or whatever it's called) that hooks over the bottom "rail" of the Arca-Swiss plate. The special Manfrotto plate that comes with this head has an especially thin "rail", so the catch clip is just able to reach over the rail and come down on it to lock it in when you tighten the screw. Most other Arca-Swiss plates have thicker rails so the catch clip cannot clear the rail and so can't lock the plate. (This explains why, on the other hand, the Manfrotto plate can work on other Arca-Swiss heads.) I got frustrated with the Manfrotto head and now have a Gitzo head that much more easily accepts a variety of other manufacturers' Arca-Swiss adapter heads and will take any brand of Arca-Swiss plate. For the money you'd spend on this adapter, I'd put it towards a Gitzo head (such as Gitzo GH1780 Series 1 Magnesium Center Ball Head, (Load Capacity 22.05 lbs.)) It's a much better head, lightweight, one-touch adjustment, and more versatile for adapters. Oh, and other manufacturers' adapters for Monfrotto tend to be more expensive because they have to be "special made" to fit the quirky Manfrotto specs. Hope this helps!
Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
GARY M  I thought that this would be an arca-Swiss adapter that would take other Arca-Swiss plates. But it doesn't! It only takes the Manfrotta-made Arca-Swiss â?? style plates! So, in fact, it really isn't an "adapter" at all. It only works with the plate comes with it. If you have other Swiss â?? Arca plates from other manufacturers, they won't fit.
