About Manfrotto MVM500A

The Manfrotto MVM500A Aluminum Fluid Monopod with 500 Head is a lightweight fluid monopod supplied with a specific 500 fluid video head on top. It has an innovative fluid pan cartridge incorporated into the base that gives you an incredibly smooth panning action. Great compactness while folded thanks to the three retractable feet.

The patented fluid monopod features wider platform for HDSLR bodies and the sliding plate travels to balance the latest interchangeable lens cameras. The fluid monopod ensures smooth shots and fine control with up to 5kg (11 lbs) of equipment. The side lock system allows the camera and sliding QR plate to click quickly into the head from above, instead of needing to be aligned and slid in from the back. No secondary safety lock is necessary.

The side lock system also makes it quicker and simpler to lift the camera out of the head from above. The monopod has one easy link 3/8" connector to allow an external monitor or other accessory equipment to be fitted.

Problems with foot

from Memphis Tn  -  Pro Photographer

My particular monopod that I bought from Adorama 2 months ago has severe foot popping problems, I've tried every adjustment, watched several videos from Manfrotto, tried silicone, wd 4, tightened, loosened, etc and nothing works. The popping vibrations radiate into the camera making all footage useless, unless you like jacked up video footage? If you loosen it as Manfrotto suggests, then the fluid head on the foot does not engage. I would not recommend this and suggest that Manfrotto recalls their monopods with fluid head and foot until they have reengineered this monopod. Adorama will not offer a return on this, and I will have to return it directly to Manfrotto. I would not recommend this monopod to anyone.

This monopod was disappointing, in that panning was not completely smooth--there would be unpredictable, minor rough spots. Not enough to ruin the video, but not acceptable to me at this price. The panning motion occured between the metal ball and the feet portion of the monopod, NOT at the fluid damper. So the nice panning damper is not functioning at all. Instructions and illustrations were poor.
