The BUSlink 250GB AES 128-bit Encryption External Slim Drive with CipherShield design, features a chip embedded in an access key which matches the chip on the motherboard. Since CipherShield encrypts data independent of the operating system, removing the drive and connecting it directly to the IDE bus will not defeat the encryption. It also requires the key to be plugged in in order to access the drive.
