About B + W 67 Circular Polarizer

Highly efficient standard 67mm circular polarizing filter for all cameras with beam splitters in the light paths of their TTL exposure meter and with autofocus lenses. Circular polarization has the same pictorial effect as linear polarization, but allows for proper exposure metering and/or autofocus distance settings.

B + W Polarizers increase color saturation and reduce reflections. The neutral gray color and plane parallel polarizer material guarantee optimal image results. High-quality optical glass ensures excellent pictorial quality. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is positioned in relation to the sun. Filter factor is between 2.3 and 2.8.

Linear and circular polarizers both consist of a linear polarizer foil but differ in their construction in the following way. Modern SLR cameras have a beam-splitting prism that sends part of the incoming light to the meter and part to the viewfinder. The effect is that the light entering the meter is partially polarized by the beam-splitter.

A linear polarized placed on the lens of such a system will act as a second polarizer and block light to the meter by a degree dependent on the angle between the prism and the polarizer on the lens. The result is incorrect exposure/aperture values from the meter. The circular polarizer circumvents this problem through the addition of a 1/4-wave retarder, or delay, foil. This ensures that the linearly polarized light is changed into a rotation that appears unpolarized to the meter, resulting in proper exposure/aperture readings.

A must have

from York, Pa  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I carry a circular polarizer for each of my lenses. It is the most important thing in your bag afterThe camera and lens. Always buy a good one . B+ W is a good one. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because 5 is for perfect but I would give it a 4+.

The best

Quality optics

I purchased this filter to reduce glare and enrich the fall colors of trees along the lake. The results are outstanding.

B+W polarizer

from Torrance CA.  -  Photo Enthusiast

Well constructed and high quality glass make this a great accessory. I have two others and find them to be just the thing I need to cut down glare. I travel a lot and have to keep equipment down to a minimum. This is the first accessory I pack after my camera and cards.

Very good quality

It worked very well on a recent cruise.

Filter to reduce flare

from Michigan  -  Photo Enthusiast

Purchased to reduce flare prevalent with some lower cost filters in some shooting cases as well as reduce glare in others. Use this to enhance the blue in the sky for landscape shots.

Works very well,!

B+W 67MM C-Pol MRC

from Seattle, WA  -  Photo Enthusiast

The B+W c-pol filter seems slightly brighter than other less-expensive polarizers but I'd like it if it were even brighter than it is. Because it reduces light by ~2.5 stops and increases contrast it sometimes causes my Nikon D80 to error slightly in auto focusing. But the error is very small and I can easily work around it when I shoot stationary subjects. Construction and finish are much better than with other brands. The B+W metal rings screw onto and off of lenses more smoothly and never get stuck, as has happened to my filters made with anodized aluminum rings. I DON'T screw the filters together too tightly, either!
