Clearly a great filter.

I use this filter with my Nikon D3X lenses, primarily for protection, as I trudge through forests and city excursions. It is thin and crystal clear. The threaded front allows me to add N.D. or I.R. filers, as well. If you have invested a lot of cash in your glass, you have to couple it with the best optical protection. This filter gives me the protection I need with flexibility and no noticeable interference.

Use this UV filter or nothing at all

If you're going to use a UV filter to protect your lens then you MUST use the best. A $20 filter from [...] will do nothing but make your pictures look soft and flat.My only real complaint is that I've had a real problem getting this screwed on to ONE of my lenses. My 24-105, which previously had a Hoya Pro1 UV filter and no install/removal issues, is a fight every time I need to add or remove this filter. My 10-22 & 24mm f/1.4L II are both trouble-free. This is more of a lens issue than a filter one, but I can tell you that with as thin as this filter is, it's not helping the ease of install...

About B + W 77mm XS-Pro UV Haze MRC 010M Filter

This UV Filter blocks the invisible UV component of light from the sky, which can cause blur and to which many color films react with a blue cast. These filters should be called UV-Blocking Filters, because there are filters for technical applications that pass UV radiation and block all the other wavelengths.

Nevertheless, the short term "UV Filter" has become established among photographers. UV Filters are ideal for photography in high altitudes (in the mountains), by the sea and in regions with very clean air.

The pictures gain brilliance and disturbing blue casts are avoided. Because the glass is colorless, color rendition is not altered, aside from the elimination of the unwanted blue cast, and no increase in exposure is required.

That makes a UV Filter very suitable as protection of the front element of the taking lens against dust, flying sand, sea water spray and the like, and it can be kept on the lens at all times. It is recommended for analog color and black-and-white as well as digital photography.

This filter uses B&W's XS-Pro Digital mount which is especially suited for DSLRs with wide angle and zoom lenses. It has a front thread for additional accessories such as lens caps or hoods. All XS-PRO Digital mounts are made of brass and are matte black to prevent reflections.

MRC (Multi-Resistant Coating) by B+W is not only an extraordinarily effective multiple layer coating, it is also harder than glass, so that it protects filters from scratches (for instance when cleaning the filters), and it is also water and dirt repellent, thus facilitating filter maintenance.
