Refurbished Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS
Many other reviews have focused on what a great lens this is, and I agree completely. This review is more about the refurbished copy I bought. I really can't tell the difference between my refurbished lens and brand new. There are no marks what so ever and the glass is perfect. The lens was well packaged and included the factory manual.

Chromatic aberrationas are too strong
I read many pro's and contra's about this lens, and finally purshased one. Was surprised with the significant chromatic aberrations in my copy, particularly at 55 mm (in conjunction with 7D). Any aperture, any distance to the object, they are just TOO significant, at least 1-2 pixels around the center and 3-5 pixels at the corners. The in-camera JPEG converter successfully eliminates these, but once you are dealing with RAW on yourself - be prepared to deal with this pain.

I'm a pro photographer and have been shooting primarily a Conon 5D Mark II with Canon L Series 24-70 and 70-200 f/2.8 lenses. I recently bought a refurbished D7 from Adorama, and wanted to pair it up with a high quality mid-range zoom. This lens measures up very nicely against my Canon "L" series lenses and it's a mystery to me why Canon didn't give it that red ring and "L" designation. This is a beautiful, fast, solidly built f/2.8 lens with tack sharpness, beautiful color rendition, and low distortion. I can see myself using this for 70% of my work and even my most demanding clients will be pleased with the results. Highly recommended.
Nice fast lens for handheld photography. Quality glass for reasonable price for Rebel.
My most shots are outdoor of plants and wildlife. Recently, I shoot some indoor activities, such as musicals, plays, meetings, awards, etc. I use the lens with Canon T4i camera. I am struggling and learning. I had some good shots and some not so good shots. It could be due to my inexperience of indoor shooting. I wish the lens comes with more instructions and references.
I use it as my main walkaround lens, very high quality.
This lens is fast and sharp. It replaced a Tamron 17-50 DiII VC. Incredible difference especially in low light. The only thing I miss is the zoom lock, but I can live.
This is a terrific lens. It is sharp, smooth & I couldn't be more pleased. Due to the price, it may not be for the casual user, but for those who want pure quality, this is it. It is a bit heavy. but not overly so. This is to be expected with a lens of this quality. I do professional real estate photography, & this is absolutely great for indoor shots. Works extremely well for outside work too as I can move in close to the property & still include a view of much of the home.
I use this lens on my 50D. I also have access to an 18-55mm kit lens. The kit lens is great for its price, but if you need a faster lens, this one is great. I am able to get pictures in locations that I could not with the kit lens due to the lack of light. I was in a moss garden on a very cloudy day and was able to get pictures when the other two in our group (also Canon users) could not. The image stabilization is very good (and welcome in the above situation). The colors are vibrant. Sharpness is excellent. Auto focus is fine. I really have no complaints about this lens. It covers a very useful (at least for me) focal range. I have a 10-22mm (which is also excellent) and I find myself using the 17-55 in many situations where I previously would have used the 10-22 (where I don't need the extra width obviously). It is considerably heavier than the 19-55mm, but that is because of the much better build quality and the faster maximum speed.
Sharp, quick and accurate focus, low light powerhouse, and the peace that comes from knowing you have the best.
I recently purchased this lens since my Tamron lens (same focal length etc.) bit the dust when one of my kids dropped my camera. We purchased this right before our beach trip so we could capture some nice pictures during our vacation. Comparing the pictures from this vacation vs. the pictures taken the previous year using the Tamron lense - there really is a huge difference in the detail and sharpness of the colors. I used a nice UV lens filter on my Tamron which helped the blues and other colors pop some - but did not have a lens filter for Canon lens - but was really happy with how vibrant the colors appeared. The only dissapointment that I had was that this lens didn't seem to perform as well in low light conditions as I'd hoped. My Tamron Lens was also a 2.8 (no IS though) but I'd say the Tamron did a bit better in low lighting.
This lens is extremely sharp. Also nice is the relative lack of chromatic aberration at wide apertures. The IS works very well, making smooth handheld video a reality for me.
