Another Great "L" series Lens

Have had this lens for around a month. Yesterday took it as a walkabout lens in Mesilla, New Mexico. It was the only lens I took and it was on my Canon 40D. As I had purchased it as 'refurbished' I knew that it should be correct optically and mechanically in every Canon way. I was right. From a wide angle ( allowing for the 1.6 crop) to the larger tele format, excellent. I found a very large jar filled with the same type of flower but in about 5 different colors. I also found a Mesilla fire hydrant, faded pink and yellow. When I got home I downloaded from the camera to my MacBook. I copied the shots into digital pro, Adobe CS3, Lightroom and Lightworks. The colors were fantastic, and saw no sign of vignetting at the wide 24. Even the semi-macro came out reasonably well with the len's IS on. They would have been ideal if I had wanted to lug around a tripod, but that would have taken away from my testing.

Disappointed

Not consistently sharp. As a reconditioned lens, the warranty is not very generous. Canon did attempt to correct it but no improvement. Then the warranty ran out! Since sold the lens and I am using the EFS zoom lens. Half the price and better image quality. Get the NEW lens and the full length warranty.

The best lens I own

By

from Jacksonville, FL  -  Professional

I had purchased this lens before with a camera body but sold it. Then I started photographing weddings and was using my 2.8 24-70 which is great but I needed to get closer without being physically intrusive and 24-105 is perfect for ceremonies and receptions. Also, I don't shoot anything below 4.0 except for bridal, pre-ceremony shots and details, so the 4.0 is a perfect wedding lens. It's not as heavy as the 2.8 24-70, versatile and incredibly sharp. The only thing that is missing is the zoom lock, but as long as it doesn't become loose or rotates out on it's own it won't be a problem. I love this lens and will never sell it again.

Good wide range kit lens

By

from Baton Rouge, LA

This lens came with the 5diii I purchased right before a trip to Puerto Rico. I also brought the 50mm1.2 and 70-200mm2.8 ii and out of the three for that particular trip the 24-105 spent the most time on the camera as being the most versatile. So far I have no complaints about the lens and will be definitely bringing it with me on future trips as an all around travel lens. The size and weight are not bad. it took a little punishment in the rain forest(rain) and some more at the beaches in the form of sand completely unharmed. Overall I beleive it will be a good lens.

Good as new!

By

from Cheney, WA  -  Semi-Professional

I picked up the Refurbished version of the Canon 24-105 f4/L IS a couple of weeks back from Adorama. The lens come in a Canon factory sealed box marked Canon refurbished and includes everything you would expect from the new version of the item. It came with no cosmetic flaws what so ever. After shooting with it a few time I've determined that this lens is as good as new!!! Everything is up to spec. It leaves me wondering, why did I ever buy new? P.S. one minor issue, it's more of an announce than a real problem but the original hood EW-83H is a sloppy fit, it raddles a bit. However, if your shoot with a cropped sensor camera like the 7d/7d mkii just slap on the EW-83J which was originally for the EF 17-55 F2.8 IS and your good to go. It fits and works perfectly.

Almost the perfect general purpose lens

By

from Kentucky

The build quality and zoom range are excellent and the focusing is spot-on. My only real complaint, other than wishing it was a 2.8, is that the images are not quite as sharp as I would like. Don't get me wrong, the images it produces are very good to great, but I would not rate them as excellent. That being said, unless you are a professional photographer who demands the absolute sharpest images, this lens will do nicely. For this zoom range I have not found a better lens.

Best walk around lens I've had

By

from Portland, Or

This lens is why I am shooting full frame (5DII) as well as crop (7D0. Very good performance, with filter on, is nearly waterproof. Great for shooting coast scenics in the winter, snow in winter, Portland gardens in the rain, etc Mt Hood, St. Helens. For backpacking, much lighter than f2.8 24-70 and more reach. I pair it with f.4 70-200L is. Also good for portraits because of f4.
