Exactly as expected

Using on EOS 7d, but expect to have a 6d in a few months. Had the ef24-105 L, and the ef-s 17-85. This 24-70 L is lighter and more contrasty than the 24-105, and beats the ef-s hands down for colors. No distortions to speak of, and did not require any micro focus adjustments. Macro mode works very, very well, and I've always been a fan of Canon IS, which helps immensely with getting sharp pics. I also have a few fast L primes to use where the f/4 may be weak, but this is the first zoom I've...

I also have a few fast L primes to use where the f/4 may be weak, but this is the first zoom I've felt like keeping on the cam instead of the primes. Good cams need good glass and this is one of the best without spending over 2g's for a 2.8 which would be bigger and heavier anyway. I actually really like the build - not plasticy at all. Hood locks solid, and new pinch cap is about time. Very pleased.

Focus Shift—Be Aware

Tested this lens quite extensively and found a pretty bad focus shift.

Quality is what counts

By

Good, quality product that you'd expect from Canon. I found it much sharper in the corners compared to the less expensive Tamron competitor with both lenses at F4. Glad I spent the little bit extra on the Canon.

As expected: great 'everything' lens

By

This is my go-to lens. It's almost always on my 5DIII, except when I need a bit more reach. Replaced my 24-105 with this lens and love the IS (gotten sharp images up to 0.5 seconds handheld), great sharpness and color as you would expect from this lens and controlling the zoom range is less cramped than on the 24-105. I have not treated my lens well (cold, heat, dust, water,...) but it has been working without the slightest issue. Use it mainly for tripod-mounted landscapes and it is simply perfect for that, as well as travel/walkaround (lighter and less bulky than 24-105). Miss the 70-105 range from a 24-105? Take a step closer to your subject!

Great New Lens with Micro capability

By

I have been using 24-105 for years. This lens seems to be a good replacement for the old one. Slightly better IQ, better IS than the old one and added micro capability. No need to carry 100mm Macro, good for occasion use. Good lens for daily use. Lighter than the 2.8 II version, the IS is more useful than the extra stop and $$$ saving for some other lens I like such as 35mm/2 IS.

I like this lens better than the F 2.8

By

I wanted a tack sharp walking around lens for my T3i and 5DM2 bodies so the interchangeable EF configuration was important. In addition, I wanted a fast F-stop. Unfortunately the 2.8 model lacks IS which I find useful even at that aperture. I returned that lens and ordered this. I couldn't be happier, whether shooting indoor portraits or outdoor action shots. The build and weight on the product are excellent.

Excellent

By

Nice lens, a bit sharper than my 70-200mm f/2.8 (not II) at 70mm. Good carry lens, with less distortion/vignetting than the 24-105 but with arguably a shorter range in exchange. For me a perfect size/weight for carrying on the 6D as an all-purpose lens.

Good lens overall

Lens has a good sharpness and contrast. Macro option is good. Bit heavier than I expected.

Excellent Image Quality

By

I've only taken test images so far, but they have very nice image quality. Fast autofocus. It's a bit large and heavy (compared to a prime) - I wonder what the 2.8 is like!

An excellent L!

By

I chose this lens over the Canon 24-105L and the 24-70 f/2.8 II after shooting with all three. This lens has visibly better image quality that the 24-105. I didn't need the extra stop of the f/2.8 24-70 and liked that this lens has IS. The fact that is considerably less expensive than the f/2.8 clinched the deal.

Shopper  Will this lens be compatable with my camera body? I have a canon EOS 10D.
WILLIAM V  yes
Shopper  what does the extended warranty cover?
Andrew R  That would depend on the extended warranty you purchase. The basic Mack extended warranty simply extends the existing warranty by the defined period (3 years or 5 years depending on the warranty). Mack Diamond warranties also include accidental damage coverage (among other things).
