About Canon

Canon once again takes photography to a higher levels with the the 35mm SLR (single lens reflex) EOS-3 camera. Canon's exclusive eye-controlled autofocus system, combined with CMOS sensor technology allowing for an unprecedented 45 focusing points, will undoubtedly revolutionise the creative process of making photographs.

Until now, the most focusing points available on any branded 35mm camera has been five. Thanks to the CMOS sensor chip and Area AF optical system, photographers can now enjoy 45 focusing points, the largest "active" autofocusing area of any SLR camera, covering nearly 25% of the picture area. All focusing points are linked directly to Canon's exclusive eye-controlled autofocus system and a 21-zone evaluative metering system, thus providing sharp focus and perfect exposure instantly, regardless of subject position. These combined technologies provide photographers with the ability to concentrate on composition instead of camera controls, with unprecedented speed, precision and flexibility. As with the Canon Elan IIE, eye-controlled autofocus in the EOS-3 is functional in both horizontal and vertical camera positions. The camera is also compatible with Canon's sophisticated E-TTL flash exposure system and provides wireless remote control with optional Speedlite electronic flash units.

The EOS-3 incorporates the world's first area AF system, a high precision focusing system, higher speed eye-control and improved high-speed focus tracking. Such technology combined with many of the features of the EOS- 1N and, of course compatibility with the extensive range of over 50 EF lenses and accessories, make the EOS 3 the perfect choice for advanced amateurs and professionals alike. The EOS 3 design is based on that of the EOS 1N - sturdy with easily accessible controls for quick and easy execution of camera operations. A range of accessories developed specifically for the EOS 3, including a Speedlite flash, is here.

NICE!!!

Well a review doesn't really count here, but, I have always wanted this camera and now finally got it! After all the years of reviews on the "3" all I can say is, it is what I always thought it would be, a "pro" camera. To all the people that think the shutter is noisy, the camera is to big and heavy, and all that think the buttons are hard to reach, and all that, I would hate to be their spouse! I just hope that who ever traded this camera in for what ever, isn't to upset at themselves for tra...

I guess the EOS 1V is the best film camera from Canon, but I am just fine with 2nd place on this one!

A great film camera

By

Being the second best film body made by Canon, the EOS 3 packs in some great technology. For careful B&W work the spot metering is great. The ETTL flash metering is also handy. I like that my Canon DSLR lenses and flashes work seamlessly with the EOS 3.

Four years and still Love it

By

I have had my EOS 3 for, four years and it has made it thru 3 trips to the Mid east desert, Japan, Korea, Huricane Katrina and countless other countries, it has yet to let me down, I bought a EOS 1d to replace it two years ago but i still carry it as a backup. Its just a good solid camera.

Very well satisfied, and easy to use.

I am so satisfied with this product, that I did recommend and purchased one for a family member. The only thing that is not liked about the product, is that after about 16 rolls of shooting at one time, your arm does get tired. However, that is not an everyday occurance.

great camera

Great workhorse of a 35mm camera. No failures, and I beat my gear. The eye control autofocus takes a lot of dedication and attention to use, but once mastered has some usefullness. I love Canon. I beat 2 Elan bodies into dust but it took several years.

As good as you need

By

So many great features. The eye control focus point selection works great for me, and makes it super easy and fast to control the focus point (doesn't work so great for some other people). Fast continuous shooting and mirror lock-up are features I use often (in different situations). It's too bad mirror lock-up is set with a custom function- I'd prefer easier access to that mode. You can buy accessories for this camera to do anything you need to do. A digital camera that can do everything the EOS-3 can do is still $1000's more (or I'd have one). This is a fantastic piece of equipment.

Great Performer and Reliable

By

This was the second best film body that Canon made when I purchased it many years ago. It's a great camera that never failed me even in well below freezing outdoor use. I have since switched to almost all digital but have kept the EOS-3.
