About Canon 70-200mm F

The EF70-200mm f/4L IS USM Lens - Versatile and Compact EF Lens

The EF70-200mm f/4L IS USM lens delivers the legendary sharpness and clarity of the Canon 'L' series lenses in a compact and lightweight design that is easy to use for hand held photography, making it a versatile lens for any photographer

Canon is the only manufacturer to provide a full range of professional zoom lenses in both the high-speed f/2.8 category as well as the compact and lightweight f/4 category. Rounding out Canon's f/4L lens lineup is the EF70-200mm f/4L IS USM lens.

This "L" series lens is designed for professional or advanced amateur photographers seeking maximum performance and versatility. This is a lens that can handle almost any assignment, ranging from distant subjects to the demanding requirements of up-close and personal portraits as well as nature photography.

The EF70-200mm f/4L IS USM lens stands up to the rigors of professional use. The lens is sealed from dust and moisture, and is equipped with the latest generation of Canon's Image Stabilizer (IS) technology, making it an optimal everyday shooter.

The image stabilization achieves three shutter speed steps of camera shake correction within 0.5 seconds after the shutter button is depressed halfway and yields correction for up to four full shutter speeds while handheld, providing a new level of performance. Users can also select two IS modes, one for stationary subjects and another for intentional panning.

The EF70-200mm f/4L IS USM lens is the same size as the EF70-200mm f/4L USM lens that remains in the EF lens line, but the new lens adds several valuable features. In addition to enhanced weather sealing and image stabilization, the EF70-200mm f/4L IS USM lens incorporates a circular diaphragm to create more natural looking background blur, and distance information to aid autofocusing and automatic flash exposure.

The lens also suppresses flare and ghosting with advanced coatings and optimal placement of its 20 lens elements in 15 groups. One Fluorite element and two UD (ultra low dispersion) elements thoroughly suppress chromatic aberrations for crisp photos throughout the entire focal range.

A ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM) provides fast and silent autofocusing, while the full-time manual focus function provides maximum control even when the lens is set for AF.

As good as new!

Bought this lens refurbished from Adorama and could not be more pleased. I could not tell the difference between a new one. If you are going to buy this lens, get the refurbsihed one and save yourself a good amount of money.

Fantastic lens!

By

Absolutely no regrets in purchasing a used EF 70-200 from Adorama! The lens itself is amazing although the weight (while less than the f/2.8)takes some getting used to. Easy to use with fast focus!

Great lens, can't compete with f2.8

By

This lens is incredible in every way - super sharp, great DOF, and much smaller and lighter than its f2.8 counterparts. However, in the end it could not compete with the speed and new optics of the f2.8 ver2, so I returned it and made the upgrade. But for the money and if you're not planning to show in any low light, this lens is a great value and makes beautiful images.

Awsome clarity

By

I am a semi pro photographer that made the switch from another brand 70-200 2.8 lens to the Canon 70-200 4.0 lens. I am in love , the new one is half the weight and size, clarity unbelievable, ease of use; put on camera and go. output is by far superior to the major competition and price point is the same. I love the ability to hand hold no monopod needed in most cases. I am so thrilled I traded my other "big Lens" and appreciate the support of the Adorama Team when selecting a replacement.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  is this lens good for indoor concerts or indoor events?,thanks Dan
WADE G  Because its maximum aperture is f/4.0 you would have to crank up your ISO value to about 3200 minimum to be able to use it at concerts. If your camera will do that without too much "noise" in the image, then it would certainly do well in that environment. Most cameras produce a noisy image at that ISO level, but the newest ones are somewhat better.
Shopper  Does that mean it is used?
JOHN W  Yes, a litle used. Refurbished usually means the item was initially defective (right out of the box) and returned to the store, which in turn returned it to the manufacturer who then repairs and repackages it. I've purchased a few Canon refurbs, and if I hadn't known they were refurbs, I would have thought they were new. Sometimes, rarely, refurbs are store or rep demo items that show some wear, but these are few and far between. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a refurb, and if you're worried about the short warranty period (90 days), pick up an extended warranty from the dealer. You'll still come out ahead, and wind up with longer coverage than you'd get on a new lens. BTW: this is an outstanding lens!
Shopper  Has anyone used this lens on a Canon T3I?
WADE G  I have not used it on that model. It should be a decent choice for that size sensor, however.
