Wonderful Lens; Don't get the kit

Great image quality wide open to about f15. The stabilization really seems good for 4 stops and makes a big difference when hand-held. Images are sharp at minimum focus distance. I wish it had a tripod ring to use as a handle. Don't buy the kit with the junk Pro-Optic filter. Why does Adorama want you to ruin a great lens with an awful filter?

Cool lens

from Westerly, RI  -  Photo Enthusiast

Fast focus, good image, good durability

Great lens

from Undisclosed

I am an amateur photographer and I was looking for something with a little more zoom and quality than the lens that came with my camera. I have taken the same exact shot with both lens' and this one is a way better quality image.

Terrific Lens

from Columbus, OH

I've used this lens for the past three years on 60D and a 5DIII bodies. The sharpness and operation are excellent and the stabilization is superb. I've shot sharp images at 300mm and 1/30 second! The lens works well for outdoor sports when on the 60D. This makes the lens an effective 112-480 zoom.

Great sharpness and reach

from Portland, Or  -  Semi-pro Photographer

Sold my 100-400 and bought this for use on 7D and 5DII. Much sharper than older zoom, lighter, and more convenient. I also have 70-200 IS F4, great lens but now use only for backpacking and similar.

Excellent lens that but...

from Missouri

This is a very good lens that is very sharp on both the wide and telephoto end. I did have to micro adjust the telephoto end. That said I give this lens a 4 instead of a 5 due to the location of the focus ring and Canon's failure to provide a tripod collar. It is just too easy to accidently change focus while shooting hand held. A tripod collar would help mitigate this design issue.

Versatile lens, Great for wildlife shots

from Albuquerque, NM  -  Photo Enthusiast

I was looking for a lens that could take shots of wildlife from a distance. This lens certainly fits the bill and the IS helps in low light. I was also looking at the 100-400mm lens but the negative comments about its barrel focusing system pushed me towards this one. I don't think I will be needing any larger lens unless someone starts paying me to take photos!

Wonderful.... purchase ever

from Sri Lanka

I'm using EF 70-300mm L IS f/4-5.6 for year. No issues with the lens. It has a weather & dust seal. It has awarded as a best lens 2011 from EISA. This is a really best lens but it has a problem with night shooting, because of f/4-5.6. In dark areas it wasn't focus. However it deliver awesome picture quality.. super build quality. Easy to hand held.... i recommended & trust CANON stuff only.. Canon is the best... better if price down.

Beyond Expectations!

from Jacksonville Fl

I haven't had this lens long, but I've taken over 1500 shots with it. It replaced an EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens. Although that is a fine lens for the price, it left me wanting just a bit better image quality. Shipping time was great, in fact, it was delivered early. The lens was in great shape, and I mention this because I just didn't know what to expect from a refurbished product. I do have other "L" lenses, so I knew what to expect in the way of image quality, and this lens did not let me down. Focus is very fast, even in evening light @ 300mm, and IS is really a dream on this lens. I was worried about that, but this one is excellent. It is a bit heavy, but still handles well and I haven't felt the need of the mono pod attachment. I read some reviews that complained about f/5.6 being a bit dark for an "L" lens, but I've been using an ISO of 400 in overcast and late evening light, and haven't had a problem getting crisp shots.

Image Quality Is Awesome

from Atlanta  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I don't know how an image can be any better than what comes out of this lens, especially on a 6D. The bokeh is very good if one shoots at f5.6. The only bad thing I can say about this thing is that it is heavy, but it's built like a tank. You can get a tripod ring for about $44, so don't spend $180 at Canon.

Best travel lense.

from Undisclosed

I bought this lense couple months ago, it is one of the best lense I've used. It works very fast, and quality is superb and totally takes a beating. It is the perfect travel lense for me because of the wide range of zoom. I really wish the price was a bit lower though...

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
JOHN S  Great reviews on Fred Miranda's site. This lens is compact and has very good reach. It's also relatively light weight, which is a plus for travel.
Robert D  Hello, I'm looking at this lens, when I check the Canon website it appears that the Canon Extender EF 1.4x III (Tele Extender) will not work with this unit but it will work with the 100-400 4.5/5.6 L can anybody confirm this as the 70-300 is my preference being so much lighter as well not really keen on the push/pull of the 100-400? Thanks
KATHLEEN O  I don't have an extender but I've heard that too from several people (but I can't confirm it personally). I bought the 70-300, knowing I wouldn't be able to use an extender, and it is a wonderful lens. Heavy, but I'm very impressed with the photographs I've taken with it.
Shopper  Is this lens refurbished? Is it guaranteed to be the USA version?
ZIYI F  It's brand new and has a warranty card with it.
