QUICK FIX FOR THE OC-E3

The only problem I had is the plastic base is (not if) going to break at the most inappropriate time. In my case before a wedding. With a little engineering you can solve the problem. I use the Omega Flash Flip (HOT) Bracket. If you unscrew the base from the OC-E3 and unscrew the cold shoe from the bracket, you can screw the OC-E3 directly to the bracket and it hasn't failed me since. The bracket costs about the same as the cord. So you dont have to keep buying something you know is going to ...

I have 2 brackets with cords directly attached to each and couldnt be happier with the performance ever since.

Expensive Piece of Junk/ Breaks Easy

I wrote an earlier review on this and was quite happy with it. I was shocked last weekend during a shoot that it just simple broke and split in half. I was using a Stroboframe RL Flash Bracket, with a Canon 580 EX II, and a Whail Tail Studio. The Flash on my bracket is stationary, and the Camera does the rotation so there is less stress on the hot shoe, as opposed to some brackets that flip. I was "Walking" up a set of stairs, and that's when it broke. The flash and all luckily fell into my arms, and didn't fall and smash the hand rail. I've heard complaints that some people think the cord is too short,in retrospect I think this is a good thing, because when the Flash Mount breaks, the Flash will fall and Bungee, instead of hitting the ground and breaking. Like the others, I've had the same problem with the plastic tubes inside breaking around the screws. Really cheap stuff considering the cost. I bought an additional Canon OC-E3 from Adorama as a spare, and used Krazy Glue on the broken one, hoping I can salvage it. I baby all my Camera equipment, and was so surprised in the way the OC-E3 feel apart in my arms. If you buy it hopefully you'll have better luck than me!

Not designed for the 600 EX RT weight

By

from Los Angeles, CA  -  Pro Photographer

I am onto my third one because this is not designed to handle the weight of the flash with any type of head movement or a modifier. It breaks at the plastic at the screw plate. I've spoken to Canon and they state it is designed for forward flash only. No modifiers, and no head movement. Poor design not great for any type of larger speed light flash

Falls apart or quits working

By

from WA. State  -  Professional

I am beyond disgusted with this off shoe cord. This week I threw TWO in the garbage. The first one just quit working. The 2nd one that was only used twice completely fell apart! (look at the photo) I luckily was able to catch my brand new canon 600ex-rt that I purchased a few months ago with this cord. Nothing says "unprofessional" better than gear literally falling apart in front of a client! The cord before this one stayed in one piece, but just quit working. I am extremely easy on my equipment. This cord was used on a rrs bracket. Probably the worst thing is after spending probably around 20K at Adorama over the years they only care that I am past the 30 day guarantee. I have never returned one thing, never complained and have been a loyal customer. I honestly thought they would be as disgusted as I was. Not the case. In my world I only buy Canon products. Not any more. Now I have to look to a 3rd party in hopes they can make something remotely reliable. I also have to look to a new camera dealer that can exhibit a fraction of the loyalty I give them. I cannot afford to pay $70 for a cord that's reliable for only one Senior session.

Canon OC-E3 off-camera shoe cord

By

from Perrysburg, Ohio  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

I have used this cord on my 5D MarkIII for fill flash and found it very easy to use. It seems to be very durable. I have used an off brand and the quality of this cord is much better and worth the cost.

Get That Flash Off of the Camera!

By

An absolute necessity if you want the flash off of the camera to eliminate that "Deer in the Headlights" look.

Useful and reliable

By

from Fayetteville, TN  -  Professional

If you forgot your ST-E2, this is a reliable substitute if 3 feet off camera is enough. Or, if you are using an off camera flash that doesn't slave.

Great quality

I've tried the other brands, I'll stick with Canon products; they are more dependable and have higher build quality.

Could Be Better

By

from New Orleans  -  Professional

I wanted this for the purpose of angling my light as needed on exterior shoots when larger pieces of equipment were not practical. Unfortunately, the cord is not nearly long enough or flexible enough for this use. Otherwise, it works as intended.

Maribeth E  this is not anything regarding a purchase. I need to find a cable/hot shoe that will connect to my Cannon Rebel to my studio lights. I cant seem to find this could you help me on this? The name, product number. Thanks Maribeth G. Elder PhotosbyM.E.
DEAN L  I use a Canon OC-E3 EOS dedicated TTL off camera cord, works great except you're limited to the length of the cord. You may want to check out radio-active poppers which would give you more working distance, though they're quite pricey ! Dean
