A must have!

This is an excellent Piece of accessory from Canon, I believe it's the most important thing to buy for your Canon 5D Mark II, It's very useful for any kind of photography since it makes it much easier to get an outstanding composition from the first shot and without having to crop your photos on your computer to align it! This is an excellent Piece of accessory from Canon, I believe it's the most important thing to buy for your Canon 5D Mark II, It's very useful for any kind of photography since it makes it much easier to get an outstanding composition from the first shot and without having to crop your photos on your computer to align it! I don't really like to change any parts in my expensive camera or even play with it, but the installation was very easy, safe and clean especially after watching a short video tutorial online. The screen is exactly the same quality as the original one attached to the camera, same clarity, same brightness, it just has those great extra grid lines. The box includes a very durable mini kit that has a storage case for an additional focus screen and a small tool to hold, install and remove it without having to touch anything with your fingers. The only downside if i may say, is that installation might be easy for anyone, but aligning the focus screen to get those grid lines perfectly centered could be tricky some times, it needs a meticulous hand, personally i had to repeat the installation about 5 times to get the grid lines perfectly centered with the focus points in the camera. Overall the product is just great and i think Canon should make it the default focus screen on all their camera bodies.

BE CAREFUL!

I recommend having an expert install this. I just installed the screen and it wasn't as easy for me as everyone else. I removed the factory screen in my 5DM2 very easily. Then, I placed the new screen in the "seat" - or so I thought. When I pushed up on the focusing screen holder with the new screen on it, it gave me a little resistance which I thought was normal. It wasn't - it ended up chipping a corner of the screen off (!!!). Fortunately I managed to get the screen in place so that it eas...

Fortunately I managed to get the screen in place so that it easily latched into place when pushing up on the focusing screen holder - no resistance at all. I thought I had removed the chip that broke off. Then I used a rocket blower and the chip that broke off almost flew out (it landed close to the exterior and away from the mirror (Thank God!). I got it out using a jeweler's screwdriver with scotch tape adhered to it. I was very lucky that I did not scratch the mirror. Also the part of the screen that chipped off does not show up when I look in the viewfinder.

How to keep the horizon horizontal

By

from Springfield VA  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

Just what I needed to aid me in keeping horizons horizontal and clock-towers vertical! I'm surprised my Canon 6D did not come with it, but this inexpensive purchase came with detailed instructions and the tool to keep my greasy fingers off the glass focusing screens as I changed them out. The packaging is perfect to keep the standard screen clean and safe, although I have no intention of returning it to my camera. And, of course, Adorama shipped it real fast. What's not to like?

Very helpful

This is very useful for quickly lining up horizontals and verticals, especially in architectural photography It is a good compositional aid. It is nice and bright, quick and simple to change out.

This works great to make sure you are level and cut down on cropping

Excellent addition to the 6D

By

from East Coast  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

Canon should put these things in as standard. I put this screen in my old 40D, 50D, and now the 6D. Makes shooting landscapes and overall alignment of horizontals and verticals dead easy. If I did macro work I might prefer the super bright focusing screen, but for general photography I don't think you can beat this one.

OMG It is fantastic!

It is like you see it when you want to see it. What I mean is, when you need to have straigt pictures it is there. Doing wedding candids or anything other than buildings you see right past the lines.

Good enhancement

By

from San Francisco, CA  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

For an advanced amateur, like me, this is an interesting screen for framing shots, especially under good lighting conditions. I'm cropping less from the images and enhancing quality as a result. Probably not for everyone, but useful to me.

Simplicity at its Best: Fits the EOS 6D.

By

from Miami, FL

The first screen was defective, Adorama took care of the replacement immediately. Today I received the new screen. The box was sealed and packed differently than the first time. Everything was impeccable. I decided to inspect the new screen before proceeding with the removal of the original screen. The screen was flawless, free of dust and ready to be installed. The removal of the original screen off the Canon 6D is a very easy process and the mounting of the new EG-D focus screen is just as simple. Pretty much a ten second affair. Having done that, I replaced the lens back on the 6D, took a couple of pictures and noticed that the screen indeed helps tremendously maintaining a horizon or a perpendicular as well as a nice composition. This particular screen should be the standard screen on the Canon 6D. It is worth the money, no doubt about it. Note: This screen fits perfectly on the Canon EOS 6D.

Definite upgrade to my Canon 5DM2

By

from McKinney, TX  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

I'm primarily a wildlife & landscape photographer & being able to align my shots was crucial. Difference between a good but crooked shot & a great shot. Found myself spending more time in post processing trying to make alignment adjustments than what I should. The addition of this grid screen has paid for itself in my first shoot since I bought it. Mainly because i've never been a huge fan of using Live View to get the same effect. The installation seemed intimidating at first but after searching YouTube for some instructional videos, i was able to make the switch in about 10 mins start to finish. Make sure you are in a dust free area though, since you'll have the sensor exposed for that period of time. Nothing but good things to say about the screen so far & the ease its added to my shots.

Defective Late Arrival

By

from Miami, Fl

Although a 3 day delivery premium was added to it, the delivery took about five and half days to arrive. As soon as the screen was installed, looked through the viewfinder and there was what appeared to be a glitch on the screen. I removed the screen out from the camera and examined it with a magnifying glass and it was not dirt, it is a mark of some kind or a scratch . It was a big disappointment knowing that the screen had to be returned which I proceeded to do immediately. On the mean time I have to use the original screen while the new replacement arrives. I guess I will use the grid provided in the 6D while using live view. When the new screen arrives, I will inspect it closely before installing it. Hopefully, there will be no more disappointments. Adorama's return policy is fair and quick but the delivery via USPS is totally worthless and not worth the money.

Great Product.

For landscape photography this focusing screen with "Grids" is a must. Was easy to install and works great. My only question is why Canon did not include this with the 5D Mark II!
