Great Gear

Althought the Canon EF 70-200 f4L IS USM is light enough to be used without this, I fail to understand why it's not included with the lens. The slight additional cost this might add to the lens purchase would more than offset the hassle of having to order it after the fact.

rugged and useful, but over-priced

I use this with the Canon 20D, 70-200mm f4L IS, and flashpoint 2560 monopod. Sometimes with the canon 1.4x II TC as well. I mount so the "toe" points forward when using just the 20D and 70-200 f4, and flip the ring backwards when using the 1.4x II TC. Works great at keeping the camera balanced on the monopod and allows for camera rotation for portrait shots. The contstruction is all metal with a plastic insert to keep from scratching the lens. The big issue is value. Almost identical produc

Excellent Product

Fits perfectly, turns smoothly and locks securely on my 400mm. f/5.6 lens. It's expensive, but worth the price. I tried the Vello brand but was disappointed with the fit and operation.

Very Good Product.

The Canon Tripod Mount Ring is a must when using a Tripod or Monopod. It is expensive but has good built quality to match Canon L Lenses.

Canon quality; does the job well

I use this adapter on a Manfrotto 682B self-standing monopod when I cannot use a tripod. The camera (Eos 7d) and lens (70-200mm f/4L) is better-balanced when mounted at the lens which allows the use of the self-standing feature of the monopod. My only real negative (not worth a star demotion) is that the adapter is expensive, and should be supplied with the lens -- perhaps Canon could increase the cost of the lens by half of what this unit costs separately, and include the adapter with the lens).

Solid alternative to the original

I use this product primarily to hold the 70-200mm f/4L USM IS lens to a monopod. It appears to be just as strong and well built as the original Canon ring. It lacks the quick release (you have to unscrew it all the way to get the ring off) but considering all else it is a quality product. Fit is great and the liner is soft on the lens.

Solid product buy way way too expensive

This ring is indeed an excellently manufactured article. With that said, I see no reason that is should cost so much. I'v tried cheaper ring(s) but they were made of plastic and metal as opposed to all metal. I ended up coughing of the cash for this one. I will say that this ring is rock-solid and I have no fear of breakage or deterioration of materials. I do feel that Canon should have included the ring with the lens.

Worth the investment.

I bought the Canon 70-200 USM IS F4L Zoom Lens. This is an excellant addition to the Lens (since it doesn't come with a Tripod Mount). The mount makes it easier to properly balance the Lens-Camera combination on a MonoPod or TriPod. Using the screw mount on the camera biases the weight to the lens, making it difficult to be steady and consistent. The ability to position the mount either toward or away from the camera allows you to maintain the center of balance when using the lens with or without an extender Easily worth the investment to go along with the Lens.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Is this a Canon product or 3rd party? One of the reviews makes me question this. The picture does not show the side that would have the Canon logo.
GORDON M  This is a Canon product. I believe there are 3rd party tripod mounts available but I felt that a Canon lens deserved a Canon mount.
Shopper  does this part fit the 70-200mm f/2.8 L (non IS version)?
ERIC W  70-200mm f/4 lens has a mounting diameter of 2.57inch. I believe f/4 is much larger. It's probably too small. Try measuring your f2.8 to verify.
Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
ELISABETH N  I needed one for my lens and bought this so that i can take vertical shots while on a tripod.
