I use it to add USB 3.0 ports to my Apple MacBook Pro 17" 2011 model laptop. It transfers large data files from my Western Digital My Book 3TB hard drive at ~500MB/SEC compared to ~300MB/SEC with USB 2.0 ports that came with the laptop. It is almost twice as fast, although, not 10 times faster than USB 2.0 like described. I would buy this product again, however, it can be difficult to setup. I had to reinstall my OS after it caused my USB 2.0 ports to stop functioning on the first installation attempt. It seems to have driver problems with OS X Lion 10.7.1. I have not had any problems with OS X Lion 10.7.0.
