PST on its own looks at <1.0 Angstrom of bandwidth of the H-alpha line. This will allow you to see excellent prominences but only some surface details, although the chromospheric network is observable under good seeing conditions and the more the eye is trained.
Coronado's Solarmax 40 and their other filters have a bandwidth of <0.7 Angstroms, with this you will see good prominences and more surface detail.
To lower the bandpass of the PST Telescope Coronado has added a Solarmax 40 Filter to the front of the PST which changes the PST to a <0.6 Angstroms Bandwidth filter. This bandwidth is the optimum for viewing; you see good prominences and excellent surface detail.
