Full Disclosure: Coast provided me this HP4 in order for me to test them out. But, everything I will talk about here is my own opinion. Coast Portland was not given copy approval nor any editorial input in this review. That means, they're reading this review for the first time along side you. These are the topics I will cover. The light feels premium in the hand with semi-coarse knurling ? It is entirly made of high strength anodized aluminum ? The tail cap unscrews in order to remove the battery ? The button is a high travel, stiff, mushy, high positive tactile button with a rubber cap over it 2) Weight: ? 2.22 oz (63 grams). That's about the weight of 11 United States Quarters 3) Opperation and Modes: ? The operation of the light is controlled by one button on the back of the light ? There is only one mode ? There is a momentary on mode 4) Charging Port: ? No charging port built into the light itself. Instead, there is a Micro-USB charging port built into the optional ZX110 battery 5) Battery and Charging: ? The light is powered by 2 alkiline AAA battery. It can also run on the Coast ZX110 lithium-ion rechargeable battery ? The ZX110 battery is a 10900 cell ? The ZX110 battery has a built-in Micro- USB charging port and a charging indicator on the top of the battery ? A solid red light indicates charging and a solid green light indicates the battery is fully charged 6) Performance On Lithium-ion Battery: ? I didn't notice any performance/brightness increase when running it on the optional ZX110 battery 7) Charge Time/Battery Satistics: ZX110: Rated Capacity: 600 mah Tested Capacity: 653 mah Built-In USB On Battery: Charge Speed: 302 mah Time: 2 hours 24 minutes 8) Final Thoughts: This is a standard run of the mill pen light. Nothing special or specifically tailored here to note. The HP4 has a standard Bulls-Eye beam pattern with a hotspot in the center surrounded by a bit of spill. For me, the beam is something I do not prefer, as I prefer a smooth even beam. For that reason, I prefer the HP3r instead. The HP4 is nearly identical to the G20 interms of build, size, and operation. The only differences being the HP4 being much brighter and having a Bulls-Eye beam pattern with a hotspot instead of the inspection beam pattern on the G20. Overall, it is a well built pen light, but I think it is priced a tad high.

Not like the light it replaced, this model no longer has momentary on. This was a feature that I used frequently, not happy with loss of it. I will probably look to other brands that use this feature in the future. The light is an overall tough flashlight, but lacks the feature that made it stand out before.

I carried my HP4 religiously for probably 3 years (until I got an HP2 in December 2019, and used it multiple times daily. To me, this light easily tops the Streamlight Stylus and 5.11 Tactical pen lights I've carried. Puts out plenty of light but won't blind you, works well with NiMh batteries, and rides great clipped to a hip pocket. My only complaint is that the switch is easy to click on by accident if you're remotely active and it's clipped to a hip pocket. My HP4 is now relegated to backup duty, but I wouldn't hesitate to depend on it. One of these loaded with Energizer lithiums would make the world's best glove box emergency light. Especially in one of the colored variations.

Great flashlight for the price, I got 3 lights about 5 years ago when they were like 60$ they are still going strong, I got 2 more just recently for gifts. Battery lasts a long time on just two AAA batteries. Small, fits in your pocket or with pens or in a shirt pocket. Surprises most people because they don’t know you have a bring flashlight on the job. I will deff buy more if they ever quit working, I dropped one of these lights into a large tank of water, it spent a month in the tank until found, I put new batteries in it and it still works. 5 out of 5 for sure.

Replaced an older HP4 I bought about 3 or 4 years ago and it seems significantly brighter, but in the same note also like the battery life is not quite what it was. The old HP4 would die and that was it, whereas the new one seems to get dimmer very gradually, but if I don't use it for a few hours it is bright again. Overall it's still an awesome, handy little pocket light.

Compact, rugged, bright, easy to pack for travel. I bought this primarily for emergency lighting during foreign travel, and usually carry it in my day-bag, or in my pocket. It's come in handy a few times.

This is my 10th HP4. I use rechargeable batteries and use these daily. I lose them every now and then as a mechanic, then quickly return to Coast for another.

This is a good quality flashlight. It's not overly bright for 95 lumens, but does put out a good beam. If it was 1/2" shorter I'd give it 5 stars.

After owning this for over 2 weeks, I'm still in awe over the amount of light this puts out. A pocket penlight that outshines most full-sized flashlights. I believe i will need to buy several more. Great gift.

This light is used by an automobile technician and he uses it all day long and loves it. It's bright and compact enough to help him in the dark small crevices of vehicles. And I only steal it from him two or three times a day.
