If you're working with video, you're probably working against the clock. And since you can't recapture time, CitiDISK CFR is a highly effective professional video asset. It connects to FireWire-enabled camcorders to instantly record (capture) footage digitally, eliminating the time-consuming process of digitizing DV/HDV/DVCProHD tapes or P2 cards into non-linear editing (NLE) systems.
CitiDISK CFR is the latest addition to Shining's award winning CitiDISK family. Capture footage digitally and to tape simultaneously - directly into QuickTime footage through camera's viewfinder). At only 6 oz, CitiDISK CFR won't weigh you down when trekking up Mount Everest in sub-zero temperatures or traversing the African wilderness in high-vibration shoots. CitiDISK CFR runs with off-the-shelf, removable compact flash memory cards (also known as "solid-state" memory, ranges from 500MBytes to 500GBytes ), offering key advantages over traditional drives.

The ideal solution for those wanting to go "tapeless" without having to "put out to pasture" their present tape-based camcorders. Easy to set-up. Once you format your CF card, transferring files to your computer is a breeze. This is particularly convenient when shooting on location, where you can hook up a CF card reader to your laptop via USB, thus eliminating the need for the firewire ports which are typically absent in most laptops. With CitiDisk, you can record to CF alone or you can record to CF at the same time as to a tape cassette if one is present in your camera (great for archival purposes).
One of my favorite cameras to use on commercial production is the JVC HD-110. The only "pain" is having to run the tape back through a second time to capture the video. I was used to it and lived with it until I got a bad tape and had a one-time commercial shoot video full of glitches. That was my motivator to buy the CitiDISK CFR. After watching the tutorials on YouTube, I mounted it to the camera and now shoot everything with both tape and the CFR. That gives me the safety I need as well as the convenience of simply inserting the CF card in my computer and dragging the files over. Sweet! The CitiDISK CFR has multiple format options and I use the M2T that's compatible with the JVC. It comes with a shoe mount and a carrying case. Since I usually use the shoe mount for the Marshall monitor I simply ran a velcro strip through the carrying case belt loop and put that around my IDX battery mount. CitiDISK makes under camera, V-Mount and other mounting options but what I do is fine for me. One thing the makers of CitiDISK, Shining Technology, make is a fire wire "surge protector." I've heard too many stories of forgetting to connect the fire wire with a camera's power off and burning out the port. Their protector is next on my list to get. By the way, I had a few questions after my purchase and their support was fantastic!
