The Chimera OB2 PRO Kit puts together the collapsible 24" Octa 2 softbox and the 2800OP Versi Octa Speed Ring to give on-camera flash user's access to that unique Octa-quality light.
Beauty dishes have been around a long time providing a unique mix of diffused light with a crisp edge. But the problem with these popular light-shaping tools was always transporting them, requiring outsized cumbersome cases. Chimera's Octa 2 Collapsible Beauty Dish changes all of that with a 24" lightweight source that folds up like a softbox.
You can use it in the classic mode with the included center bounce disc or without it for a harder bare bulb look. Add the included front diffuser and you've got a 2" OctaPlus Lightbank with wrap-around light quality and circular catchlights. The 24" beauty dish uses standard OctaPlus speed rings or the Versi Octa speed ring for on-camera flash use.
The included Chimera Adjustable Versi Bracket Octa Speed Ring allows you the use your shoe-mount flash unit with Chimera softboxes, including the Octa 2. It's compatible with most professional sized camera flash units with a height of 4.5 - 7.5" (11.43 - 19 cm), measured from base to middle of the reflector.

I also purchased this beauty dish because of the portability aspect. It folds up nice and flat in the included carrying case. As the interior doesn't have the typical silver coating (its kind of white plastic), was wondering if it would produce flattering light. But the engineers at Chimera seem to know their stuff because so far, I've been very pleased with the results. It's worth it to buy the kit if you plan to use it with a flash. It works great with a Canon 580EX or 600EX speedlite. The one take away involves the connection of the flash bracket to the speedring. It's attached with two sheet metal screws. So in addition to having to pack a phillips-head screwdriver (not a big deal), you want to be very careful not to loose a screw because both are needed in order to properly hold the speedring.
I have a series of portraits I've been working on as a special project which involves traveling. My kit has to be simple, durable and easy to travel with. Everything I take with me has to fit in a backpack. I was looking for a beauty dish but the problem is traveling with one. It's too bulky and awkward. That was why I chose the Chimera portable dish. It's lightweight, packs small, and provides great light. When you purchase the kit you get both the dish and the speedring. If you buy the dish by itself, that's all you get, you have to purchase the speedring (which the rods attach to)separately.(??) Chimera manufactures to very high standards. You will get quality and durability, and will pay for it. If you have the budget, this is an indispensable piece of equipment.
