About Celestron

Celestrons signature orange-tube telescope combines advanced features and excellent optics in one easy-to-use system, the NexStar 6SE. Its the perfect choice for your first serious telescope, offering striking views at an economical price.
Our Founders Vision, Reimagined for the 21stCenturyIn the 1970s, Celestrons Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes brought the hobby of astronomy to the masses and established Celestron as the worlds premier telescope maker. Our founder, Tom Johnson, invented Celestrons proprietary method of producing Schmidt corrector plates for superior views and maximum portability. Johnson believed in creating high-quality optical instruments at an affordable price, and inspired a generation of amateur astronomers.
Four decades later, weve improved upon this design by adding cutting-edge features, while staying true to our founders intent.
View the Universes Most Impressive Celestial ObjectsThe 6SEs six-inch primary mirror packs enough light-gathering ability to observe the best that the solar system has to offer: Cassinis Division in Saturns rings, the cloud bands on Jupiter, and geographic features on the surface of the Moon. When it comes to deep sky objects, take your 6SE to a dark-sky site and youll see hundreds of pinpoint stars in the Hercules Globular Cluster, the spiral arms of the Whirlpool Galaxy, and more.
Revolutionary Single Fork Arm MountWe know the best telescope is the one you will use most often. Thats why Celestrons engineers created NexStar SEs unique, patented single fork arm mount. Its perfectly portable and makes setup quick and easy. Whats more, the NexStar SE breaks down into several lightweight and compact pieces, making it easy to transport, even in small vehicles. Youll have no problem getting the NexStar SE to your favorite observing site, or setting it up quickly in your backyard.
Of course, its whats inside the mount that really counts. Sturdy construction from high-quality components give NexStar SE the pointing and tracking accuracy needed to observe and follow your favorite targets with push-button ease. Use the included NexStar+ hand control to locate over 40,000 celestial objects, or take a Sky Tour and let your telescope show you the best objects currently visible.
Aligning your telescope is simple and painless, too, thanks to SkyAlign. This process makes alignment as easy as 1-2-3: just center three bright objects in your eyepiece and press ALIGN. For even easier alignment, attach our StarSense AutoAlign and your NexStar SE aligns itself!
Advanced Features Let the NexStar SE Grow with YouThe NexStar SE is compatible with all the high-tech accessories advanced users love. Provide GPS coordinates to your telescope with SkySync, or add automatic alignment functionality with StarSense AutoAlign.

For planetary imaging, pair your NexStar 6SE with one of our Skyris cameras. Or, experiment with wide-field deep sky astroimaging by replacing the telescopes secondary mirror with a DSLR or astronomical CCD camera with a Fastar/HyperStar lens assembly. From your first observing session and for years to come, the NexStar SE is your trusted companion.

For two years, Celestron will cover repairs or replacement of this product in cases of defective components or damage from normal wear and tear.

Excellent - met all my all expectations!

I am an amateur astronomy enthusiast who always wanted a go-to computerized scope. Celestron Nexstar 6SE met all my needs and expectations - the scope quality is fabulous, the tripod is sturdy, the setup instructions are accurate and I managed to see more in my first night of using the scope than I ever had - with useful info on the hand-held remote! Looking forward to using it with my laptop.

Average optics, Weak tripod

I upgraded my new NexStar 6 SE with the 2" XLT SCT Diagonal (#93527). After that, I compared it with a 1999 Celestron C5 that I still own. The C5 is 12 years older, doesn't has Starbright XLT coatings or the upgraded 2" diagonal, and is a full 1" less in aperture. Unfair comparison? The old C5 gets better pinpoint stars and perfect diffraction rings. In addition, the focus knob is buttery smooth. In contrast, the NexStar 6 SE view is simply not as sharp. Focusing movement is unpleasantly uneven. I can't really appreciate any visual improvement over the older smaller scope. The 6 SE's tripod is very weak. The extension leg holders are made of brittle "PLASTIC" and they break at the screw holes. I sent mine (still in warranty) to Celestron for a replacement, had to pay all shipping and have been waiting for them for a month now. I don't know why they make you wait that long for an of the shelf replacement part. On the positive side, you can easily remove the scope from the mount and use it with other OTAs. The Hand control software can be easily updated. The optional SkySync GPS receiver (#93969) works very well. In summary, not a good experience due to average optics and really bad choice of materials.

Received item in damaged container

To take pictures of the sky. I have yet to use it since it wasn't sent with any lenses. It feels like it is made in a superior way. Not the type of telescope for beginners. I have yet to get it up and running since I am still waiting on parts. I won't be ordering from Adorama again due to damaged packaging of an expensive piece of equipment.

It is perfect for basic and intermediate astronomy observation. I would not recommend it the photography applications even though it is possible.

Cool instrument

By

from Fort Smith, AR  -  Casual/ Recreational

I bought the 6se for my wife's birthday as a goto scope. It looks to be well constructed and requires no tools to set up although it was a little heavier than I anticipated. The basic eyepiece (60x) is not enough to fully enjoy this scope, so plan on buying additional eyepieces and power cords (AC and DC) to maximize viewing pleasure. I just started working with the scope and have not quite figured out the Star Alignment procedure, but I am not giving up - even without it, the scope is still a nice one. Now if the weather would cooperate.

Great Scope but prepare to Spend $$$

By

from Anaheim, CA  -  Casual/ Recreational

I received the Celestrong Nexstar 6SE as a birthday present. I am very happy with the telescope but what I wasn't really prepared for is the number of things I would need to buy (in addition to what came in the box) to really enjoy it. First of, the telescope runs on 8 AA batteries that only last about an hour with frequent slewing and tracking. I bought a set of recharchable batteries ($20) but soon realized I needed something else for long nights in the backyard. Luckily, the scope does work with a Power Adapter but that has to be purchased seperately ($15.00). If you want to take the telescope out with you then a cigarrette lighter adapter is a nice addition ($20.00). The 25mm Eye Piece the scope came with gives you a maximum magnification of 60X. Although this is great for wide views of the universe, you definitely need additional eye pieces of different focul lengths to make best use of the scope. This is a major investment, Celestron offers a nice package of eye pieces ($130). First night out in the winter and my scope fogged up in a matter of minutes. the Corrector Plate on SC's are a magnet for dew so a Dew Shield is a must ($40). This is the basics. If your interested in doing some photography then you need to buy a Tadapter ($20), and an Equatorial Wedge ($150), an absolute must for long exposures which require smooth tracking of objects as they move across the night sky. One minor problem I had was with the included StarFinder/Pointer which did not work properly when I got it but a quick call to Celestron resolved that issue. I will say this much that after purchasing this scope, i have seen the rings of saturn, the moons of jupiter and a beautiful view of the Orion Nebula that took my breath away. I absolutely love this scope and my only complaint is that I keep wanting to spend more money on it.
