This was probably a valuable product in the days before camera sensors cleaned themselves. But nowadays, you may find it doesn't do you much good. I tried this on three different Nikons DSLRs, each with just a few spots on it. On the two older cameras, the Firefly had no effect at all, despite repeated tries. On the newer camera, it got rid of one small spot and moved the worst one to a new position, leaving the rest untouched. Coupled with what seems like overpricing of this product, I was not a happy customer. I guess I should have just bought a sensor brush, like everyone recommends.

I have followed this product since its inception several years ago. It has been refined and perfected. This item will save you tons of money on sensor cleaning. I would highly recommended this for any one who takes photography serious.

This is large and cumbersome. The design is poor and it takes a lot of patience to re-screw the lid once the 9 V battery is in place as the screw-holes are not tapered and the tiny screws do not locate easily back into their receiving holes. Once assembled, the air-bulb does not seat tightly onto the de-ionising chamber and tends to fall apart during the squeezing operation that is required to get the de-ionised air puffing onto the sensor. Once re-assembled, the operating mode is definitely a two-handed affair with the camera placed on a flat surface or fixed on a tripod, and one hand steadying and aiming the de-ioniser with the other hand 'puffing' and holding the thing together!

I had seen several specs on my finished pictures and realized that I had accumulated some dust on the camera's sensor. I tried using a blower but while it mved a bit, there seemed to be even more after that attempt. I purchased the Firefly and used it several days later. I was pleasantly surprised at the results. The dust has been blown away apparently because of the anti-static properties of the air that the unit delivers. The Firefly saveed me a trip and expense of having the sensor professionally cleaned.

While there are many methods available to the photographer to clean the image sensor filter, only the FireFly provides a convenient, safe, and effective method to neutralize electrostatic charges on the components of the mirror box, shutter chamber, and image sensor filter.
The FireFly utilizes a nine-volt battery to 'ionize' the air passing through the body of the Firefly, producing and delivering both positive (+) and negative (-) air ions to the outlet air stream. This assures that the static charges are neutralized, allowing the particulate matter to be blown off by the ionized air stream and flushed out of the camera body. The new 2nd generation FireFly includes many improvements over the original FireFly. We have reduced the size and weight, added a new compartment for the battery making it easier to install, and we added a new 'Timer' circuit that will automatically turn off the FireFly after 15 seconds - making it possible to use the new FireFly one-handed.
When compared with all the other methods and devices, the NRD FireFly is the clear choice for today's photographers.
