It worked well for a month or two, then became intermittent, then quit working altogether.

This is a very good gadget for taking pictures during touring, especially in another country. I got it just before taking the vacation in Europe. I could record all the places that we went to instead of memorizing them either on the notebook or in my brain. Unfortunately, I had a mishap that the cable connecting to the camera was broken and that I could not record the GPS information for the rest of my trip, about 3 days. It was quite delicate that could be easily broken during numerous time that I took it out or put it back to the backpack. Otherwise, I would give it 5 stars.

This unit is a good budget alternative to the more expensive ones on the market. I had been looking for a GPS to use with my Nikons when I noticed this unit. It has worked flawlessly so far. Accuracy has been very good when compared with my more expensive handheld GPS. I won't use it every day but when I do want to tag a series of shots it does the job.

I was looking for an alternative to the pricier Nikon GPS. This unit has worked incredibly well for me over the past 6+ months on both my D7000 and D200. Fairly quick initial lock and have not had any problem with getting signals. I would definitely recommend that you at least consider this model, especially if you want to use it on two different bodies like I do. Having both cables included is a nice touch.

The unit doesn't work after 4.5 months. The green lock shows a lock but there is no communication with the camera.

sat data is good. Have one question: I have the data when image is reviewed on camera but no data when RAW files are checked after down loading from CF card. Do I have to download using the USB port from the camera??

Start up and aquisition a little slow. But once running worked perfectly for an entire day of shooting in Canada. Used on Nikon D200

I want to make it clear that in all fairness, since this is the first time I have used GPS technology for photography, I do not know if the failure of this device to fully meet my expectations is due to the device itself or other factors. That being said, I bought this GPS device so I could geo-tag my photos during our Alaska cruise this September. The plan was to use the geo-taged photos to generate maps for inclusion in my iPhoto book of the trip. As I have indicated, I am not overly impressed. During the trip, there were several areas at sea, in Alaska, British Columbia and the Yukon where the device could not lock onto the three satellites necessary to get a position fix (in all cases I was outdoors with an unobstructed view of the sky). As a result, only a few of the places we visited were in fact geo-tagged. It is my belief that the reason for the problem is either that the circuitry used in this device lacks the RF sensitivity necessary to reliably lock onto weak satellite signals or that our area of travel lacked sufficient GPS satellite coverage. I can only speculate as to whether the more expensive Nikon GP-1 or another geo-tagger would have performed better. I do, however like the idea of using GPS data to generate a record of our travels so before the next trip I will buy the Nikon device and report my findings.

First off, it has worked fine when I have had it attached. Problem is, I have now been through 2 cables on my units. The USB cable head design is not robust enough to stand up to sustained work in the field. It is also difficult to replace the cable, and it is not a match to the camera manufacturers comparable cable. Spend a little more and get a better designed unit.

The unit by itself is great - the fix time is pretty fast, it does not use a lot of battery. But the cable connecting it to Nikon's body is so delicate I was able to break it after two days of moderate use. The plug is straight and it gets bumped all the time. [...] I sent them the broken unit [...]. But the new one has the same, delicate cable so I am afraid to use it as it will get broken.I would recommend waiting for the V2 version with improved cable.

Replacement works as advertised with D2X, D300 and D7000. Cable shutter release is a nice bonus. FYI, there is no compass direction information. Also note that cables are provided for both 10pin and USB. [...]

Responds quickly on boot up. Does what it is suppose to.

This unit was recommended in a Nikonians Discussion group, so I dedcided to order one. I haven't been disappointed. Even though I carry a Garmin GPS with me, I find this unit does the same job without lengthy cables, and also comes with a shutter release cable as well. So I can leave some heavier kit behind and travel lighter when I want.

Adorama had a special on this item and I purchased one to use on a Nikon D300 and a Nikon D7000. They use very different adapters and both were included. One thing I liked about this unit was that a cable release was included and could be attached directly to the GPS head and used whether or not the GPS was powered. The cable release is needed because the GPS uses the connector the cable release would normally use. The unit found satellites quickly. It turns off when the meter turns off and can take up to a minute to find the satellites if it has been off a while. So sometimes I would missed the tag on the first one or two shots. The GPS attaches to the hot shot rather rigidly and because the connection cable loops out, I caught it several times and it held me. I am afraid I will eventually tear the connector from the camera or break the hot shot connection. Another GPS unit I have has a Velcro connection to the hot shoe and breaks free when snagged. The coordinates show up on the screen in the camera and in Lightroom, clicking on the coordinate in the metadata panel, brings up Google maps. The locations seemed very accurate and it worked inside buildings. I found it to be a very heavy battery drainer, even though it turns off with the meter. On a D7000 and a full day of shooting, the battery would be nearly empty. This doesn't appear to be any worse than the other GPS I have, but it is on until it is turned off. Overall I would say this unit is a very good value.

I wanted something that would geotag my photos when I travel and this does just the thing. The only thing I dislike about it is the connection wire hanging off it and the fact you cannot close the dust cover while it's plugged in. I'm not sure how it could be made better honestly. But it works with amazing accuracy, within feet when outside.

very useful for tracking places when traveling

This GPS adapter can be added to all current Nikon cameras and will record latitude, longitude, altitude and time information.. Micnova for Flashpoint.
