Now the Cold Shoe is on the other foot!

When you just HAVE to add some 1/4x20 threaded item to your camera and all you have is a cold/hot shoe. I use it to attach a little shade umbrella to my Sony A1U while shooting long exteriors and works like a charm.

Adorama phone rep. unknowledgeable

I called Adorama's sales representative asking specifically if the shoe to tripod adapter fit the Sony/Minolta propriety flash. I was told "it fits all flashes". Click. It does not fit Sony/Minolta late flashes.

small but so important

Adorama service has been as good as it gets. This purchase is such a minor piece of gear but you absolutely need it when you need it and it does exactly what it was supposed to and I trust it no mater what angle the camera is on.

accessory

A customer asked if this could be used on his tripod. The answer is "no" since it's menat to be used in a hot/cold shoe of a camera. I use it to attach my Zoom audio recorder to my DVX-100 camcorder.

not too bad

this piece isn't too wimpy, I wish the metal part that goes into the shoe was a little beefier.. I have this for mounting a Quantum Q-Flash to stroboframe so we'll see how long it takes to fail. There are only a few options for 1/4-20 to hotshoe and this will be fine for a light head like Norman/ Lume but I'm a tad nervous with the Q-Flash.

Male to Male Wonder

Works great. Added a small ballhead to the top of a flip-frame so I could add Swivel to a Speedlight with no swivel. Now I can bounce anywhere .

After 20 some years, I finally found it.

I use it on a camera handle mount to attach a wired TTL flash which can be detached to shine on the subject at any handheld angle I want off the lens axis. Great gizmo.

Questions about this item:

Pompo B  is the screw a 1/4 inch?
JOHN E  It's a standard tripod mounting thread as found on the bases of almost all cameras. I don't know the spec.
Pompo B  thank you I bought it ..I have a sugestion for Adorama, make one of the two rings that tightens it, larger, that way you can just adjust one, without moving the other ! :)

Robert U  Is this the part that I need for my old tripod? The old part had a screw that came up through a slot and stuck up high enough to screw the camera onto it. I can take a picture of the little platform and slot if you want to see what I'm talking about. Thank you. Robert Umfer Lansdale PA
BRAD B  No, this isn't what you need. This device fits into a hot shoe. What you need is a screw, probably 14-20, that fits through the hole in the platform of your tripod. I'd look for one in a camera repair shop, one that's been around for a long time. Or you might try getting in touch with the manufacturer or distributer of your tripod, if it's still around.
Robert U  Thanks to everyone who answered. I think Brad hit it on the nail. I just want to screw my camera into the platform so that it won't move while I take a picture. I'll check a local camera repair shop. Thanks, again.
