A solid piece of hardware

I needed a better tripod and I wanted one with a ball head for ease of use. My old tripods are lightweight but flimsy and they didn't have a ball head. I had to hike a way to get to my site and while it's not as light as my old tripods, it presented no special burdon. Setting it up was quick and easy although leveling it took a bit of doing on the broken terrain. Once set up it was solid. The pistol grip ball head is a solid chunk of metal and probably weighs as much as the tripod. I was able to pan and adjust the camera quickly and smoothly and when I released the pistol grip, it was locked in solidly. A word of caution however, squeezing the pistol grip to move the camera requires a good deal of pressure and could be a problem for those whose hand strength is not the greatest. Overall, I am pleased with my purchase and I would recommend this product.

Real Value here, no need to buy $1k tripod

By

from Payson, UT  -  Semi-pro Photographer

First the thing I value most in a company is how it takes care of it's clients. The products must be good, and a good value, but the company must stand behind the customer. I have had a Dolica for many years now, and in one of my last shoots, I lost one of the rubber feet. No big deal at all, that tripod has been to some really remote locations. That is why I got it to begin with. It is lightweight and compact for hiking in to get the great shots. I called Customer service and sadly my model is so old they don't have any replacement parts. It is a real shame since that is the only thing wrong with it is one missing foot. At any rate, since they could not provide a new foot for me, they helped me into this new improved model. When company stands behind products and customers like that, they will have my business forever. There is no need to spend excessive money on Tripods that will cost you over $1k, you will get great steady shots from these products, enjoy having them with you, and working with a company that stands behind them. This is what is always going to be in my bag. Lightweight, sturdy, compact, and a company that cares. Save some money for new bodies and glass, this is the tripod you want.

Great value for the price

By

from Kailua Kona  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I travel extensively and find the weight and compact size perfect for my needs. For the price, it is difficult to find a carbon fiber tripod with its features. I would recommend it for lighter weight camera's, as it becomes a little unstable with my Nikon d800 especially if there is any wind.

Very Nice Tripod

By

from Western PA  -  Photo Enthusiast

Lightweight and has a nice removable mount for the camera. Pistol grip is very solid and seems to be well made. Only very slight drawback is that the pistol grip doesn't fit in the tripod bag and will need to go in a camera bag instead. This is my third tripod and hopefully will last a long time

I would recommend this product

I use this product as a travel tripod. It is lightweight and quick to set up. It can't take a lot of weight but it serves my purpose

A great travel tripod

By

from Webster NY  -  Photo Enthusiast

A great tripod for the price and for carry. It's very light but seems study enough. Weight hook on bottom can increase stability (a nice feature). The extra pistol grip head is quite heavily built although I don't anticipate much use for my purposes. The twist leg locks did not work well at first but seem to be "breaking in". I would prefer a lever system for speed and convenience. A photographer with a heavy camera and lens might not find it adequate but it works well with my lighter SLR.

Great Tripod

By

from Utah  -  Casual Photographer

My wife had wanted a tripod for her Nikon D5200. After reading some positive reviews on this particular tripod, I decided to get this for her birthday. The tripod is light and folds down to be rather compact and comes with a carrying case. The Pistol Grip head is a nice bonus. Price for this tripod seemed very reasonable and we have been very happy with our purchase. I would definitely recommend this tripod to anyone looking to purchase a light, compact piece of equipment.

Heavy Duty Light Weight

By

from Atlanta, Georgia  -  Photo Enthusiast

I purchased this tripod to capture long exposures of the night sky. I have also used it to take portraits and landscapes. It's easy to use, light weight. This tripod holds my Nikon D5100 and my longest heaviest Nikkor 300mm lens. The pistol grip is firm but can be adjusted. I have no complaints.

Questions about this item:

MATT B  Would I be able to mount the Kirk Ent BH-3 ballhead on this tripod?
SHANE C  Hi Matt, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to mount your the Kirk Ent BH3 on the Dolica ZX600B103 tripod as the ball head on this tripod is removable. Regards, Shane C
MATT B  Thanks Shane, Ikind of figured, but wanted to see if anyone else had tried this tripod with a different head than what it comes with. Thanks again!
Peter C  How do you mount the pistol grip to this tripod?
SHAWN A  I have the same question, still haven't figured out how to mount it so I am just using the tripod, love the tripod, if anyone can let us both know how to mount it I would be very grateful
Peter C  Fun S answered it: you just tighten everything and then turn the whole head counterclockwise. It unscrews. (The part that says Dolica on it with the round base with degree markings on it.)
Shopper  How small does the tripod fold down to?
JOE M  To about 2.5 foot. Give or take.
