I returned as it was just to big and bulky. Tried a few shots and saw no significant change. Need to just fork out the money and buy the flash.

It is a nice product, but bulky. I'm afraid it will break if dropped, since it is all plastic. No cords or batteries, which is nice, and it works with you camera thru the TTL metering system. The unit comes in a shoe-box size container and doesn't fold up. Only moving part is the attachment on the flash, so it sets up in seconds. Since it attaches to your flash as an extension it will be moving some if not on a tripod. Nice thing is will work with many different flashes.

Nice and light weight but somewhat large compaired to other ring lights, needs it's own camera bag. Nicest thing about it is that it works with your camera's TTL system, you can set your own power output, and it adapts to several different flashes. Since it attaches to the flash and not on the end of your lens, you can use it with the flash off camera too.

Very disappointed!!!! I have a 'real' ring light and love it but it is bulky. I thought because this did not need power it would serve a need for outdoor and locations where I didn't want to lug a power pack. This as I stated above is not an alternative at all.

I bought this direct from Expo Imaging when it was still [$]. I have used it hundreds of times for portraits and weddings. I also have the Fong system but I never use it anymore since getting the Rayflash. This is much nicer lighting for portraits and it gives a very nice catchlight in eyes. You lose 1 stop when using it but that is easy to adjust for on the flash itself.

Works great for on axis fill, especially if you are with in 8 feet of your subject. If your planning to use it as a key light, you're going to be disappointed beyond 4 or 5 feet. You may be disappointed at any distance. If you think you're going to get a high fashion ring light look from a speed light adapter, your mistaken. However, I'm using it as a fill light for product and food photography and I absolutely love the look it is giving me. The construction appears a bit shaky. The pressure plate that secures it to the flash popped out of its seating, but it went back in with no problem. It's a great product for specific purposes. Maybe they should have called it the Ray Flash Close-Up and Fill Light.

I love this little gadget. It gives a beautiful wrap around light for a glamour feel. also makes a nice fill light. Very easy to put on & off. Still can make use of ettl flash output. A little on the spendy side.

While the strobist movement encourages the use of multiple wireless networks of flashes to blast away and create stunning portraits, a single flash may be all you can afford. Not to worry: There's a lot you can do with ..

The Ray Flash is a unique adapter for your hot-shoe flash unit designed to replicate the lighting effect produced by traditional, expensive, and heavy powered studio ring flash units.
The Ray Flash is portable and lightweight, and has been designed to take advantage of a camera's TTL metering capabilities. Because the Ray Flash relieson the hot-shoe flash to generate its light, it contains no electronics, no flash tubes and requires no cumbersome cables.
The light distribution is accomplished through a sophisticated system of internal prisms, reflectors and light-shapers designed to distribute and project the light evenly around the lens.
The Ray Flash creates a unique ring flash lighting effect: a three-dimensional shadow-wrapped look around the subject. Because ring flash light originates from a circle around the lens, it produces a virtually shadowless look on the front of your subject, while producing a soft even shadow around the edges. The versatile Ray Flash is ideally suited for fashion, wedding, portrait, journalistand macro photography as either a main or fill-in light.
Exposure control:
All TTL functions operate normally when using the Ray Flash. As with standard flash use, manual exposure control requires the use of a light meter or test-shots.
The Ray Flash is designed to fit the Canon 580EX (MKI & MKII) and Nikon SB800 and SB900 flash units. Weighing about 16 oz, the Ray Flash is lightweight and is easily supported by hot-shoe mounted flash units. The 4 1/8" internal diameter of the Ray Flash is large enough to accept almost all professional lenses from Nikon & Canon.
Light output:
The Ray Flash results in only one stop of light loss from your flash's standard output. The Ray Flash does not change a flash's color temperature.
How to fit the Ring Flash Adapter:
Mount the Ray Flash to the front of a portable flash unit by sliding the Ray Flash over the front of the flash unit. Then turn the lock on top of the Ray Flash to hold the Ray Flash firmly in place. The Ray Flash requires no modifications to your flash unit to mount.
