Very useful to ensure proper focus. After having aligned the telescope, just place the Bathinov in front of the OTA and focus the star... you can then start doing observations and being sure that everything is in focus Just adjust the focus making sure that the star is in the center of the FOV and that you are focusing with the optical train you are using for your observation or imaging. The focus point may vary if you change eyepieces or add/remove parts to the optical train 3 stars because it actually doesn't perfect fit my Celestron Nexstar Evo 9.25. The central cut doesn't fit around the faststar of my 9.25. So the mask just rest balanced on the fastar Still can use it
