Nice item....here's how to close it

Light, easy to set-up and use but you need the secret to close it. Take off all the parts, have the large opening of the unit face you. Push two opposite corners together and the unit will fold back to it's triangle shape. Grasp the triangle by the edge with both hands and twist in opposite directions and it will fold like a like disc. Takes a little practice but it does fit back into it's case.

Good box, not so good ball head.

I have been looking for a small softbox for my SB-600 and settled on this one. The price is great, decent quality of light (when you take into account there is only 1 layer of diffusion), and the mounting bracket holds the flash fairly well! The only thing that I don't like is that the ball head that the kit came with does not hold the softbox up. It kept falling :( So luckily I had an extra Adorama Universal Swivel Holder and that had the right size screw to replace the flimsy ball head with

It kept falling :( So luckily I had an extra Adorama Universal Swivel Holder and that had the right size screw to replace the flimsy ball head with a more robust swivel head. So if you are going to buy this nice little product I would highly recommend getting Adorama's Universal Swivel Holder

Great for head and shoulders portraits!

I use this for head and shoulders portraits. It is light enough to hold with one one and shoot with the other.

great things come in small packages!

I used this softbox outdoor at night. i put the softbox in the bushes to add more light with my built-in flash. The area was perfectly lit up.

Great little softbox for the price

By

Not near the quality of a lastolite box but for the price you cannot be it. I do not like the little metal hooks to hook the diffusion up.

Ok. Better priced at [$] (Prev Cst)

Missing the clip & elastic band that holds the diffusion fabric in place. Not very structurally sound. The ballhead sucks. For the [$] price, why not!

Quick portable solution

By

Nice way to get a bit of sofness out of a shoe flash. Doesn't allow for too much bounce in side so beam is still slightly tight, but it's really quick. Just barely holds on though so not good for a windy area or where it might get bumped. Nice backlight for tight settings.

Good inexpensive soft box

By

Very portable. If you cover the small internal diffuser with aluminum foil this also works as an inexpensive beauty dish. In addition, this comes with a flash bracket at no additional cost. The only problem which I have encountered with the bracket is that it is not adjustable enough to easily accommodate a radio transceiver.

Decent value but

The light produced by this soft box is nice, it's small, easy to carry. Folds nicely. The biggest problem is the bracket that holds the soft box. Is weak and the softbox does not stay put on the ring. Also the screw of the braket is not of good quality. If you are a pro or make money with your fotography I'd spend the money on a more rugged product. Otherwise for a hobby might be a good value.

Great product, even better on sale

By

I have tried other such products. I could not get them back in the case. This works well and packs easily for carrying. It is well made. I got it on sale. I wish I could get another for the same price.

Great for small home studio

By

This is a very inexpensive item. It packs very easily into its own carrying case. Included in the price is the mounting hardware for your flash. The only problem that I have with this are the wireless receivers that I use to trigger the flash. Mine are little bit too tall.

Great Deal

By

I'm always looking for better lighting while shooting in the field, and this is as good as I can expect for the money. I shoot a lot of herpetofauna (amphibians, reptiles) in tropical and desert settings, so diffuse lighting is a necessity. With the inner baffle in place, the light is nicely diffused, but not too diminished when used my SB-800. For a main light source, I find that my SB-600 is a bit too weak with both layers of diffusion. 16" is a good size for most of what I do, although I'm seeing how I could benefit from a 24" in some situations. Being that I'm using speedlights, and I need to be mobile, I think the size is a good compromise. The box's design is a bit stiff when folding to put back in its bag, and it's not ultra-compact, but these are sacrifices for the speed with which it can be set up. I honestly expected something of lesser quality for such a low price. Considering that I expect it to get beat up out in the field, I'm quite happy with the quality.

VICTORIA H  I am using a Canon 580 EX II with the Canon ST-E2 transmitter on my 5D. Will the flash fire with this softbox? I got a 24x24 Lastolite soft box and can not get the flash to fire.
KEVIN F  It works OK for me, but you have to be careful. The ST-E2 is infrared and needs a clear line of sight to the sensor on the flash unit. If you face the flash forward into the box you are blocking it. The bracket that comes with this is adjustable. This allows you to spin the head around on the flash and aim it into the box while pointing the front of the body where the sensor is towards the camera position. As long as you are mindful of this and make sure that the flash stays within the light cone of the ST-E2 it will work fine.....and so should the 24x24.
VICTORIA H  Thank you for your quick answer. I have just started using my flash off-camera and thought I might have wasted my money.
