Flashpoint DG400

I bought this and a DG600 to use in the studio almost one year ago. I love these things! They are reasonably priced and after finishing school pictures fo a school with about 200 students to include group photos, senior portriats and sport portraits they have worked flawlessly. When doing the outdoor group and sports portraits I was really giving them a workout fighting the ambient light from the sun and no problems. The only thing I am not a fan of is the power level incidator. It is a knob ...

I have gotten used to that and can get close to the exposure I want just with practice. I alos like the LED modeling light aspect of these since outside I power both with a PCB minilithium battery pack. Anyway great stuff!

Died after 3 uses

I got this light in the mail on march 16th it is now march 21st and my flashpoint DG400 is already not operating, not sure if the flash tube died on me or what. I used it for 2 photo shoots with amazing results but after being fired only 400-450 times it stopped working. im pretty annoyed right now with my 5 day old monolight. but i do have good things to say... while it was working i was extremely happy with the results i was getting, the contols on it were great, the slave work great on it ...

good basic studio light

By

for what this is it's a well made, well designed product. I bought it for a specific application, but it didn't work for what I needed; I did find that it was still a useful tool and decided to keep it. I use mostly larger studio strobes and this one is a handy unit to have on hand without messing with the pack/head system setup. I really wanted a small accent head but for what this is it's decent.

Great Value, I bought two

It would certainly get 5 stars if I didn't have to decipher the F-stops. Other wise, it puts out great light for my portraits.

Don't let the price fool you.

By

from cokato, mn  -  Photo Enthusiast

Comes nicely pkgd and comes with a nice little booklet on different types of lighting. The LED modeling light is a bit blue, but the flash is pretty much at 5600k. You will need to get a stand for this. It is easy to use and puts out plenty of light.

I like it!

I have just received two of these and have not had a chance to shoot them. But the build quality and function are impressive and at this price point I am very satisfied. Time will tell if the performance and repeatability are respectable.

works good, nice digital readout

For the price this is a very good monolight. I added it to the 3 I had more for fill light and I wanted light and easy. Just finished using it for a 5th shoot this week. Overall unit works like a champ. I wish it had the bigger plug for my triggers but that is a really smallthing to complain about. Yes I would buy this product again.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Is the modeling light as bright as a comparable tungsten modeling light?
MICHEAL P  It is about the same. I have no issue with the modeling light
Shopper  How long is the power cord?
MARTHA R  2.5 mts aprox but you can buy a long or a short if you want: its a universal power cord
Shopper  can it slave to a camera that uses pre-flash?
RUSSELL G  I use either the long wire that comes included with the flash to slave the DG400, or a radio trigger from seperate TX and RX transcievers to slave the DG400. I don't use the photosensitive slave flash mode with my camera's pre-flash.
