Egg Crates are a valuable accessory for soft boxes. Shaped like a 3D grid, they are available in different sizes.
Due to its wide front diffuser panel, the output dispersion of a softbox can approach 180 degrees.. This can lead to light spilling on areas of your set where you dont want it. The solution used to be large flags positioned on stands & boom arms to keep spill under control, but the fast world of location work made this impractical. An Egg Crate only needs to be a few inches deep they are very effective in keeping spill light. The resulti ng edge fall-of f is very gradual.

I just started using Flashpoint products and must say I am impressed. The quality seems up to par with much more expensive name breands. In this economy we all need to try and get the best value for our money and I think I have with Flashpoint products
Good for what it is supposed to do. Easy to install and take off. Works well, but my only gripe is the cost. There's not much to this thing, but it works and it comes with a storage pouch which keeps it from there snagging onto other stuff!
This grid is made only for the FlashPoint PZ softbox line, which has raised velcro tab for mounting. I had to modify it to mount on a non-PZ Flashpoint softbox. There's a FlashPoint grid for non-PZ softboxes, but it doesn't come at this size. My first impression was that I couldn't believe such a tiny thing costs me as much as the softbox itself. The whole thing can fit comfortably into my pant's pocket. In usage, the tiny size and light weight is actually a good thing, so that it doesn't sag when mounted and doesn't tip the light stand over. It's made from a fabric with plastic coating. The height isn't much, so the light isn't very concentrated. Comes with a small pouch. Just like any other grids, it gives the photo more contrast, while cutting down on the spill light. The light quality is still soft without the hot spot in the middle.
