Great light

My light came with a smashed bulb. Called csv and asked for a new bulb instead of RMA. Once I received the new bulb and changed it out, the light worked perfectly. I do recommend adding something stiff to the carrying case to protect the bulb. I just cut out two pieces of cardboard and inserted it into the bag.

It works as advertised

By

from Elmhurst, IL  -  Pro Photographer

Its lightweight in construction, needs to be handled with care but does a very nice job for portrait photography, catch light in the eyes. It works well off camera also. Color balance needs to be customized. Comes with a soft carry case but needs more padding, I cut piece of cardboard for better protection. For the money its a good buy.

Great Value!

By

from Brooklyn, NY  -  Casual Photographer

I use this product for head shot photography and as an additional light. the build quality is decent and the light output blends really nicely with with on location lights. The reason i gave it four stars instead of 5 is that the way it is mounted is not very stable. it uses a standard light stand mount but is very wobbley. Other than that, it is a great value for the money.

Great Product for the Price!

By

from Franklin Square, New York  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I gave this product four stars only because I believe it may be a bit fragile for heavy use, but otherwise it's a great tool for portraits. It provides nice even light with minimal shadows. It's very easy to use and produces interesting catchlights. I strongly recommend it as a portrait light. The first one I purchased had a faulty dimmer switch, but Adorama offered a fair refund/replacement policy. I waited quit a while for a replacement on back order but didn't mind because I wanted the product more than a refund.

Good Enough

By

from Marin COunty, CA  -  Semi-pro Photographer

My first one arrived totally smashed. Shipped with no packaging. The replacement took four months due to the backorder issue others have mentioned. The new one was still very poorly packaged. The box was crushed, so I was worried, but it was in "ok" shape. The lamp had popped out of the clips, but was intact. Unfortunately, one of the clips was broken. But I'm not sending it back. I don't want to wait another four months. It's not particularly well made, but it's good enough for my purposes: home studio, not for traveling. The dimmer range is very limited, but that may be normal for fluorescent lamps. Quality of light is good, so I'm happy. It included a diffuser that looks like it's supposed to fit around the ring, but its diameter is way too small. Looks like it's made for a completely different kit.

Great product for the price.

By

from Graham, WA  -  Pro Photographer

Over the years I've used several styles and "interpretations" (i.e. homemade) of a ring lights and have not been more satisfied than with my FP ring light. It's well built, durable, reliable, is easy to transport and provides the results my clients demand. I honestly cannot come up with a single negative comment about this ring light. One of the best purchases I've made in years.

Bigger than you think!

By

from Chicago  -  Photo Enthusiast

Great ring light, very good price, comes with nice storage or travel bag. It's is big in diameter, but that is good as makes the background shadow invisible to the lens. I use it with big diameter film lens and digital. Very easy to use.

Still waiting for my order from 11/15/13. If you don't have it in stock then say so on line. How long does one have to wait to receive all items? I don't think I will ever order from Adorama again...sad...sad...

Flash .. is flash except Ring Light

By

from Oregon  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I use this Ring Light for head shot studio photography. I love that it eliminates shadows and give portraits a very different look than standard methods ie boxes, dishes and the like. It's another tool in the tool box, a means to change the "look" of a model or .. something just for fun. Takes a sec to warm up when the studio is brrrrr freezing cold but not a big deal.

Questions about this item:

GREGG G  Does the ring light diffuser get attached to the ring light bulb itself? If so, could the ring light heat up the material for it to catch fire?
SHANE M  Hmmm...that must be it, because the diffuser doesn't fit over the frame. I've never used the diffuser--I just dial the brightness down. I'm not sure how hot the bulb gets.
GREGG G  Right….the diffuser is too small to be wrapped around the circumference of the ring light fixture. I'm wondering if there are different sizes to fit…..the diffuser I have simply is too small. Thanks anyhow for your response.

Craig I  I do some very basic food photography for local bars and restaurants. It's quicker "churn and burn" work so it doesn't need to be critically important. I've never used a Ring Light, but how well would this work in conjunction with softbox I'm using? Will a ring light work well with food photography?
SPIRO K  Hi, I use it very successfully to photograph plants in macro. Its not effective farther than a foot or so, but when in range, it produces shadowless pictures with black backgrounds.Perfect for macro flower shots. Hope it helps.
Craig I  So this won't backfill in some shadow detail if I'm using a softbox? Basically, I've got a softbax off to the upper left, and bounce cards down on the table around the food. I get good shadows, but I can lessen them more if this will add some fill light back into those areas. I still want some shadows, but if this won't throw any light beyond two feet that I wouldn't be able to use it for anything with food, like I said, I'm typically 2-3 ft. away form the subject. Thx.
