Excellent lighting system

Take about 10-15 minutes to set it up, but once there all you have to do is start taking pictures. Haven't had any issues with it. Even after 2 hours of constant use the bulbs run cool to the touch with the translucent filters velcroed onto the front. The color temperature is just right for a light background (haven't tried a dark background yet). This system is absolutely perfect for my home photo studio! Note: you may want to grab some light duty extension cords; the power cables are only 6 feet long, and spreading the lights far apart can be troublesome without them. Having two-prong plugs means you can use inexpensive cords.

Ok for indoor use

I principally use these lights for table top photography. The fluorescent bulbs keep them from heating the place up. Light output is adequate. I principally use these lights for table top photography. The fluorescent bulbs keep them from heating the place up. Light output is adequate. The color temperature is close enough to spec to keep me happy. They pack away into a compact package for easy storage. The light stands are durable and, with the correct device attachment, look usable with a variety of devices. In general the quality is adequate for everyday use. However, the attachment clamps and swivels on the light bases are plastic. My expectation is for them to wear out faster than a more expensive light. So, the more you assemble and disassemble them or the more you swivel the light heads, the faster they will wear or the more likely you are to damage them in a careless moment. Another point prospective buyers should know: the softboxes have only one level of diffusion material. More expensive models have two, which serves to produce more uniform lighting. Overall, I think this light set is a reasonable alternative for someone on a budget who needs simple lights that they won't work hard and that need to store well.

Great Value, Works Well

By

from Cos Cob, CT  -  Pro Photographer

Very pleased with this kit so far, although only used twice at this point. Packed well, sets up easily, and the carrying case is a real bonus. Having not worked much with studio lighting, I can't speak for how it compares to other softboxes, but for the price (and amazingly fast Adorama delivery, as always) I'm very happy with it.

Works For Me

By

from NYC  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I got these to light myself for acting self-submissions. I will also use them for product and food photography and to do some interviews with my theater company. So they are/will be multi-purpose for me. The kit is lightweight (17 lbs) and is easy to set up. They're not the brightest bulbs but so far they've been adequate. I'm also concerned that some critical pieces are plastic and not metal so I know I have to baby them and hopefully they will last. Overall I'm happy with the kit.

Nice for the price

By

from North Georgia  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I read plenty of reviews on how these are not rugged built. The screws that hold the diffusers to the light stands are plastic. If you are an everyday studio shooter these probably are't the best choice. But if like me it's an every now and then setup these will work. They come in a nice case for storage. Also nice foam boxes to keep the bulbs in. Setup is easy and quick. Not much to figure out. I setup in a gym with some low light and the bulbs were plenty bright enough. Although I also used a flash with these I probably could have made it without one. I would have give it 5 stars provided the fastening screws had been metal. Still this is a nice set for what you pay.

Good for what it is

By

from North Carolina  -  Pro Photographer

Using the light set for still lifes and product shots and a backup for other lights when I am in a bind. I am on location and sometimes I can not take all my equipment, so having something that is easy and compact is nice. This is a pretty cheap set and is disposable. I also work outdoors a lot so if the wind catches and smashes it, no loss. I wish you could mount the lights on the stands both horizontal and vertical.

Works well for my purpose

By

from Fort Collins, CO  -  Photo Enthusiast

I bought this in order to provide consistent and adjustable lighting for table top photography of models and similarly sized objects. It has been very good for that purpose and allowed me to reshoot everything for my web site with excellent results.

Simple, lightweight kit

By

from Frenchtown, NJ  -  Pro Photographer

I needed an easy photo booth set up, fast. This compact, easy to assemble kit was exactly what I needed. Couldn't be easier to set up and use. Everything comes in one small carry case. Love it. Keep in mind that this is not the brightest kit, and the components are flimsy. However, for what I need right now, it's perfect.

Nice basic cool light setup

By

from Kennesaw,GA  -  Photo Enthusiast

Very nice basic setup. If more light is needed, will accommodate 85 or 105 watt bulbs as well. Easy to assemble, light stands are adequate. For an inexpensive setup, this is the way to go. No problems with it at all. Replacement bulbs are reasonable.

Questions about this item:

ALAN S  Can this unit light up a green screen?
THOMAS W  These are pretty weak lights.
Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
DANIEL W  I needed the softbox. However, I find that I like to put the 85 watt fluorescent bulbs in them for more light. I usually only attach the white diffusion sheet to the top so that I can easily reach in to change bulbs to get the right amount of light on the subject I am shooting.
Fred P  I got the Flashpoint 5 bulb florescent light, wow 17 bucks is a CRAZY deal...CRAZY. But i don't know what softboxes will work for it. Their picture doesn't show the back of these softboxes. How do they attach, is it the "4 plastic bendable sticks that hold the softbox up? Because their 5 bulb constant light has 4 holes that would lead me to believe these would work... Anyone know?
PHILIP J  I think it is well worth the price. Enjoy and keep shooting
