Great knife

Bought one 4 years ago then a step kid stole it. Bought another one and then found the original. Love both knifes for hunting and cutting. Need new sheath for the original but that is ok

Pretty good for the price

I just got this the other day to get into bushcraft, and the quality is pretty nice. It came out of the box razor sharp, and cut right through paper and my arm hair. It's really good for working with wood and holds up nice against batoning. It doesn't hold a edge that long...but it's tremendously easy to sharped with my puck sharpener.

Time tested

I have been using this knife for 15 years now. ( I purchased in 2008) I have gut multiple deer of my own and friends over the years. It has been super dependable and the sheath has held up well after all these years in the elements. It always takes a good edge and does exactly what I need it to. I was actually looking to see if the model still existed to get another one for my son who is in his 1st year of deer hunting. The fact it's still in production makes a pretty strong statement.

Daily use

Good cheap knife! I think I've had it for over five years now And thinking about buying a second. Comfortable to use, it's my daily knife. It's big enough to cut most vegetable and meats but small enough to make more precision cuts. I see a lot of people saying it dulls quick, mine is still pretty sharp. But even then, I like to keep mine kind of dull anyways. I use it to recover bones and teeth from roadkill, for jewelry. So having a small, somewhat blunt knife is great for hacking at bones and prying teeth, without having to worry about it chipping or snapping. A great tool for someone who needs it for a low price point!!! Can not recommend enough!

GREAT KNIFE

I try very hard to get the sage green color. But with a bit of patience,I was rewarded !! Easy and safe to use with thick gloves or even mittens ( yes it is cold up here in winter!!) Blade lenght is just perfect for bushcraft and even survival.I don't need or want to use a big crocodile bundee size knife anyway! The only down side, its the sheath itself ! I had to cut the nylon sheath to get the plastic insert to fix it into a molle tactical sheath ( like the emerson molle knife sheath).

Knife Review

I have had this knife for a year and a half. Its a great knife with perfect balance and an amazing grip. I dont know what these people are talking about but my knife has never once dulled because of being in its sheath. I skin with it and cut fish bone and no damage on the blade. I can shave my arm hair with it to this day. I keep it in its original sheath(I cut the top off for easy access) unless im doing something and I have only had to sharpen it a handful of times. Its literally my EDC and an amazing piece of equipment.

Your Title

I saw this knife in my friends collection and instantly fell in love with it. It is perfectly sized for my larger hands, yet still a compact enough knife to wear every day. I'm not a folding knife guy, so I wear a fixed blade in horizontal carry on my belt. This knife is light and small so it is a natural for that role! Can't beat the price either. The one area where Gerber dropped the ball, surprisingly, was the sheath. I have always found that Gerber makes not only great knives, but their sheaths actually ADD to the overall value, instead of being an afterthought like most manufacturers. This sheath is just terrible. Only allows for one carry option, and it is difficult to draw from. I ended up having a custom kydex sheath made that cost more than the knife, but at least now it is usable and I haven't left the house without it since!

Retired Grandfather

Just acquired this Freeman Guide fixed blade knife about 2 months ago. Took it out of the box and had to go over it with my lansky sharpener to get a really great edge on it. Once that was done though, it stayed sharp through several weeks of camping duties. Dressed fish, (not my first choice, but it was with me and worked), cut bait, helped prepare many meals, and did a number of other chores. Stayed sharp for over a week before I had to use the lansky on it again, and it only took a couple of strokes with the fine diamond stone to get it razor sharp again. Very satisfied with the feel and utility of this knife. The sheath comes up and around the handle of the knife making it inconvenient to get the knife out, but I guess with all the safety junk going on now, this is what they make. I might try and make a new sheath, but otherwise a great value. Really feels good in the hand, has a good non slip grip and is just the right size for most jobs.

Great Knife

The knife is great. My wife and son bought this knife for me at a F&S store. We spend a lot of time in the woods. Be it hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, biking, or scouting. I am totally in love with this blade, the sheath not so much but I live with it. This had a great price and the quality I expect from Gerber.

I've recently bolt the Freeman Guide Folder & the Fixed blade knives. I'm happy with both of them. They are a good size, good weight and the 5Cr15MoV Stainless Steel should hold up to the elements very well. I've been able to sharpen them in a reasonable time with our Smith's Kitchen knife sharpener to the shave the hair of my forearm level of sharpness. For the price they appear to be a bargain for a good doall, work & utility type of knife.

Boy Scout

It took a edge really quick, but I was unsure of the quality of the sheath. So I took out the plastic thing out of the original sheath and made a leather sheath.

Bow Hunter

Plan on using this knife out of the box? Don't plan on it. However the blade took a new edge without too much difficulty and seems to be well balanced. It is of a decent size, although a tad small feeing of you have large hands. I have my doubts of blade edge retention, the easier it is to put an edge on a blade, the more quickly it will disappear. But we shall see how it fairs in the field. At least I will be able resharpen easily.
