I love this device. Be sure to read all of the directions and you should be fine. The Com port thing is a little tricky, but once you figure out which one is which it's fine. Be sure to use the cable when downloading your trip.

It's OK - Not that great

It can be tricky to get the software to communicate with the device. Yes, USB should be plug and play. However, you will have to chose a COM port amoung other settings that are not commonly understood by the average user. Customer service is NOT responsive to emails, and does not answer phone. Can't get help. So, if you get this you are on your own.
