About Glow

The Glow White Umbrella with Removable Silver/Black Layer 40" gives an even, diffused lighting effect with soft shadow definition. With much attention to detail from fabric to frame ribs, this umbrella sets a new high standard for portable light control for people and subjects at fantastic value.

Even though it is the simplest designed umbrella, it has a unique accessory feature, a black opaque cover outer layer, and a highly reflective silver lining, limiting the light loss that naturally occurs through its white fabric material. Use this version three creative ways: traditional soft bounce, softer and more efficient bounce with the silver/black outer layer, and as a clarity enhancing shoot through diffuser.

Glow Umbrellas are the direct 'fastpath' to light diffusion. Umbrellas are very affordable, a breeze to work with and easy to transport. Eachsize and material has a function. With much attention to detail from fabric to frame ribs, this umbrella sets a new high standard for portable light control for people and subjects at fantastic value.

The Silver/White umbrella provides stronger focused lighting, along with soft shadow definition. It is especially suitable for higher light output, greater reach and bringing out details. The Translucent Umbrella provides diffused lighting around a bright central burst. The lighting and effect can be varied by changing the distance from flashhead to umbrella.

Qliq Qwip
Umbrellas are like large to giant sized parabolic reflector. Parabolas are technically 'conic sections'. Take a perfect cone; slice through it down to the base, the edge of the cut is a parabola. This shape is more efficient at feathering light. The important point of the physics of photographically regarding parabolas is they have a focal point. Place light aimed at the focal point and it bounces off the entire umbrella surface at different angles, but when it leaves the umbrella, all the rays are parallel.

A great umbrella design, more light reaches the subject. More control. As a comparison, Glow soft boxes were designed to simulate window, light, sky light and north light. Umbrellas can be more compact and quicker to setup than the light bank counterpart.

Another factor in choosing light modifiers: the shape of catch lights in a portrait subject's eyes and the size of the modifier in relation to the size of the subject. The larger and closer the light is to the subject, the softer the results will be as to the transition of the highlight into the shadow. The smaller the size of the unit and the further the distance is from the light to the subject, the harder the effect will be.

The great value of Glow Umbrella, Softboxes and related light modifiers makes your choice simple - both!

Shoot-thru or reflective studio umbrella

I use this umbrella in my studio with a monolite. So far, I have only used it as a shoot-thru, but it can also be used as a reflective umbrella. I like the fact that it can be used both ways. It provides nice diffused light for portraits and head shots.

Great Umbrella

I usually use shoot through umbrellas for spreading the light and avoid reflective umbreallas due to the amount of light loss. This umbrella actually gave good results. Great even light and does not feel flimsy. This umbrella has a quality build.

High Quality with Case

By

This is a great umbrella for use with studio lighting. The quality is top notch, the color temperature is a perfect match with Glow soft boxes and white reflectors (which is to say, the perfect white-white), and it comes with a strong fabric case that ensures the umbrella when stored takes up as little space as possible. I bought one and then came back for second.
