Excellent Product, If a Bit Large

This diffuser is great at what it does. Harsh shadows are virtually non-existant. I used to use a Gary Fong Light Sphere, but this is less finicky. It attaches in about 30 seconds. The construction is solid, the attachment mechanism is novel, and looks like it will last a while. I like the included rear cover for when the diffuser is not in use. Thoughtful idea and easy to use. Nice that it wasn't an additional purchase. The only downside is the same all diffusers of this ilk suffer - it's rather bulky. This is the smaller of the two external flash models, but it still takes up a bit of camera bag space. If you accept this, you will be rewarded with great results. Event shooters should like this one and its big brother.

Does what it says

I bought this to take portraits of my grand children. It is amazing how it softens the light when using flash. The first time I used it was outside for fill flash. The lighting was very natural.

I am impressed!

With flash set to TTL, it is only good for about 12-15 feet. When I put my 580ex on "manual," it has a much greater range. It does provide a nice, even, soft light. (I lent it to my friend, and am having trouble getting it back). He is a pro photographer.)

Love the Graslon Insight difuser

The Graslon Insight diffuser fits my Nikon SB 600 really well. I have tried other diffusers and they would not stay on the flash head. The Graslon diffuser has two lens; one dome and one flat but you have to order one of them separately but the cost is minimal.

Graslon is a no-brainer

A little challenge to figure out the velcro clamp system the first time, but five minutes solved that. This is one capability that I have been longing, but no one has gotten it right yet. Had a Fong diffuser, had a fotodiox diffuser, made a bunch from a variety of plastic items, used white plastic bags, etc. Graslon nailed it!

does a decent job

I use both the dome and flat version of the Graslon diffusers. I use them in conjuction with the 430 and 580 Cannon flash units. I bought the flat version in hopes of using it for indoor sports photography trying to lessen to a great degree the flash shadow on gym walls behind the players IT does the job. HOWEVER, the downside is that it reduces the effective flash range even with F2.8 lenes and a very high ISO speed. I have tried the dome version which I will use for portrait type work. I got IT as the base unit with flat diffuser was out of stock yet the DOME kit was IN Stock with flat diffuser in stock but as a seperate item. I figured for the 17 bucks extra, might as well get both diffusers. If you are doing indoor sports work with flash, stick with the straight flash an bounce it off the ceiling. Works just as well with longer flash range. All in all it was a worthwhile purchase. Probably just as good as anything else and the price for what you get is reasonable. The base unit is easy to install, easy to take on and off, just not something you can brutalize in handling. Made of light plastic and the "guts" of its operation looks to be something that could be damaged easliy when exposed. It DOES come with a protective cover for the guts.

About Graslon Insight Diffuser with Dome Snap on Lens

Good pictures need good light but often the flash creates harsh edges and unflattering shadows. The Graslon Flash Diffuser with Dome Snap on Lens has an optical system that redistributes the light before sending it through the diffusing lens creating shadows that look like they were taken in a studio setting right from the on-camera flash. The Graslon Insight flash diffuser has rigid, sliding-and-locking mounting brackets that fits Canon EOS, Metz, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, Sony, Sigma & other external flash units securely. The dome lens will spread the light everywhere and takes advantage of walls and ceilings when available.
