This is a replacement drive for my G-Safe Unit which I bought in 2010. It was about a $500 purchase (at least). It came with two drives and I bought a spare. Drives fail and I had one fail so no biggie. Just buy another one however these are hard to find and I was lucky that Adorama had them in stock. G-Technology came out with a new product and now my RAID drive will turn into a giant paperweight once the Hitachi replacement drives are no longer circulating out there. I guess G-Technology wants me to buy their new G-Dock ev system with Thunderbolt.

Purchase sets of these often for our Weibe-Tech RAID housing. Been backing up data with these for years and haven't had a single drive failure yet. Knock on wood.

Just as advertised. You must let it write a new disk that takes a long time.

The G-Technology 3TB 3.5" Deskstar Spare Hard Drive for G-safe, with SATA 6 Gb/s interface, 64 MB cache and 7200 RPM rotational speed, offers a complete storage solution for PC gaming and external storage applications.
Featured Thermal Fly-height Control (TFC) technology reduces the clearance between the read/write elements of the slider and the disk surface to increase the recording density of hard disk drives. The head load/unload function protects the disk during idle state.
The S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology) detects and reports hard drive failure. In addition, the HiVERT (Hitachi Voltage Efficiency Regulator Technology) technology combines with Enhanced ABLE (Enhanced Adaptive Battery Life Extender) to reduce power consumed by the hard drive.
With halogen free design and power saving operation, the hard drive qualifies for the EcoTrac classification that reduces environmental impact in the areas of product design, manufacturing, operation and disposal.
