Most Liked Positive Review

Good for travel

Have a couple of Bogen tripods that are sturdy - but carrying those around is back breaking. This will fill a hole of having something light enough that I can have it with me on more occasions.

VS

Most Liked Negative Review

I had a higher expectation.

If you are dealing with uneven ground and constantly need to adjust up and down the legs, consider alternatives.

Perfect Entry-Level Travel Tripod

By

from Japan  -  Photo Enthusiast

This was exactly what I wanted: a solid tripod I could cram into a book bag without killing me with its weight after walking around all day with it. For me, I tend to mostly do travel photography. The better, larger and heavier tripods don't make it out with me because they're too cumbersome. This adds some weight to my pack, but now I can get tack sharp shots where I previously had to hope burst mode caught it. At under $200, you'd be hard pressed to find something better. So it's perfect for what it's made for: an entry-level, travel tripod.

Excellent used as intended.

Must admit I give it a workout. Extended I secure bottom legs together with strap/velcro attach the top of strap at tripod top. Sling it over a shoulder, or it works well like that as a mono-pod and doubles as a hiking pole. Really not the way it was intended to be used but it holds up . . However, the legs do not open wide enough for good stability at first click. It does fold to 'tiny' size which is really what was intended for it.

After owning it awhile

I often must use this as a hiking pole with the legs lashed at bottom and a sling/strap from that to just under the ball head for carry like a rifle. Wonderful in thick brush, the twist locks don't get hung up. I use a point-and-shoot Superzoom (no extra lens) this pod is great for that. But not as 'rugged' as I needed. Live and learn.

Great all day companion

By

The unit is so light I enjoy using it as a three legged mono-pod. Easy and comfortable to hand carry for long hikes. Sets up easily (from legs down position) Perfect for my superzoom point and shoot camera, which ways in at less than 2 pounds. Ball-head is awesome very smooth! Locks quickly and positively.

Ideal for Lightweight Travel

By

from Los Angeles, CA  -  Photo Enthusiast

I'd say this tripod is ideal for travel photography where weight and compactness are the primary concerns. It's ballhead is pretty small so those with heavy telephotos with pro bodies should look elsewhere as this setup is only rated at 8 lbs but it suites my needs fine.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Is this tripod stable enough to hold a Nikon D1x with flash?
DAVID C  The tripod is fantastic, a great hiking size and weight. The head is not in my opinion suitable for the rig you are referring to. I would give the tripod 4 out of 5 stars for this class of pod.
