A great alternative to Carbon Fiber!
My last tripod failed on me twice in one year, same failure. I decided that I would spend the money to get a better tripod after that. I researched tripods and read reviews for two weeks, comparing all of the options. Aluminum was out, I needed extra height and weight support. Carbon Fiber was more than I wanted to spend. The Gitzo Basalt won me over with weight better than aluminum, and a tall reach. I am 6'-1" and this tripod will put the viewfinder over my head when combined with my Induro Ballhead. I love this tripod, it is rock solid, even with my Gripped 7D and 24-70L lens in the wind. I have ZERO regrets about spending this kind of $$ on a tripod. It unfolds fast, I am already liking twist lock grips which feel very sturdy and well built. I hope to buy a second one once I can.

It's a Gitzo
Sets up with small twist CW to extend and twist CCW to lock. Light Basalt 3 section legs are seriously solid and load capable to 22 lbs. Again IT"S A GITZO! Quality and design shout from this excellent support platform..

I am absolutely impressed with the stability (rock solid) of this tripod and how light it is. This tripod is awesome! This is the Basalt model which isn't very well described above. Plus, it's tall. I'm 6'1" and I can set this up so I don't have to bend at all to look through the view finder. And there's more height beyond that.[...]I wasn't sure I would like the twist leg locks. But they are fast and easy to use. And they lock tighter when weight is added. The orange accents give this tripod eye candy. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for. I don't think you can go wrong with this one.
